I have a 6 week old baby, every evening/day from 4pm she screams the house down until 9 when she goes to sleep for a 'proper sleep' (3-4 hours) she's on gaviscon and colief

Recently been in hospital with umbilical flare (belly button infection) but that looks pretty much cleared up so don't think its that
I'm at a complete loss what to do.. Back to the doctors again?!? Or can anyone suggest something else that could be causing it, she draws her knees up and will settle for 2-3 minutes and then she just screams.. Taking her milk ok and sleeps all morning so can't be overtired as she starts 5 minutes after waking up... Is she just a grumpy baby or is there an underlying cause? Confused

Tia

I think that's normal - at least that's what I was told. Lots of babies have a really restless phase in the evenings. Used to get on my nerves, but they grow out of it.

Does she get decent naps in the day or is there a tendency to keep her awake so she sleeps at night? It sounds like she's overtired. I'd pop her in a sling for a week to give her a chance to get decent naps, put her down for bed at 6pm ish and hopefully that'll help.

She wakes up about 8-9 screams until 10 goes back to sleep until around 12 has a bottle sleeps until 3-4 then screams until 9.. I hope it doesn't last too long I'm sure ds was never this shouty!

It's the witching hour(s). Both of mine had their own special times like this - one was between 4pm and 7pm, the other was between 9pm and 12pm.
It is a phase, it will pass.
For the time being though .. for the later witching hours, my DH and I took it in turns to stay up and watch crap TV whilst rocking/cuddling/soothing until DD was ready to settle - if it was DH's turn he'd keep her for as long as possible until it was obvious she was hungry and needing a feed.

I'm glad it's not just me! She's lovely for night feeds/translation upstairs and last feed... If only it was all day Grin

I will keep telling myself as I pace around my house for the 19383839 time bouncing her...'it will pass' Smile

Thank you x
