2nd year molar hell !

Sycamore76 · 25/09/2013 19:59

I think my ds is getting his 2nd year molars , he is two
next month. Today he was up at 4am and still only napped for half an hour! Despite the lack of sleep he is still awake now (8pm) he has been stupidly grumpy and whines non stop all day. I am finding it so hard. I am just wondering how long they take to come in, anyone been through this ? Or does anyone have any survival tips ? We can't go anywhere ( apart from shops) as he is tired all the time and will just be a complete nightmare. The doctor checked him out today and he us find health wise.
Any advice appreciated.

Get anbesol (for DS) and gin (for you).
DS is almost 2 and getting a bunch of molars coming in. It's a nightmare, his sleep is crap and he's grumpy and not eating brilliantly either. Sorry, that's not very helpful but least you're not alone! I'm sick of hearing from allegedly well meaning relatives that they can't understand how he's so bad with teething when all of their DC were fine and you never knew they were teething. Hooray for you, is what I want to say! If he's bad I try to time a calpol dose for bedtime so at least he can get a couple of hours sleep before it wears off.

Thanks for that. The doctor said to give him nurofen with calpol at night so he gets some sleep. Also said the 2nd year molars are incredibly painful . I have also heard from other people that their children didn't even notice teething , mine has been an early teether and really suffered. He has only just got over an ear infection too. It's so hard isn't it? The sleep deprivation doesn't help.

Can I commiserate with you? We (and I do feel like its a joint effort!) are just cutting the first set here and it's bad enough, am a bit Sad to learn the second lot are worse!! We give nurofen before bed and calpol during the day when he needs it, and lots of teething gel!! Hope they pop through quickly for you and your dc!!

Sycamore76 · 25/09/2013 22:06

Dc is a terrible teether but would usually just wake very early in the morning when teething, the 2nd year ones are by far the worse as he is waking up during the night.
Freya kitten, you must be exhausted , let's hope the pesky teeth pop through soon!

My son is nearly 23 months like yours and is miserable as sin at the moment, dribbling all over the shop, waking at midnight, needing to come in bed with me, and then up for the day at 6am. Because he is miserable he is super clingy too.

Dose them up, just go with it, just do whatever works to get some sleep and ride it out.

Thanks for all your advice . He didn't have a nap again today . I am really hoping gr doesn't get use to waking at 4am every morning as I read three times in a row creates a habit ! Rather alarming as its been 4 am for the past two nights.
The wine plus gin sound appealing,

Hi all,
Back again ! Well, we are still having horrendous nights with ds, this weekend it has got worse with him waking multiple times during the night and up at 6am with no nap! I can see a point popping through on his last molar but that's it. It's been two weeks of hell!
Has anyone been through this ? I am worried ds will never sleep through again and I will be a walking zombie forever !

We had about 6 weeks of hell with the second molars. Screaming, banging his head on the floor, fevers, off his food, breastfeeding all bloody night. Horrendous. But when I looked into his mouth and saw the size of things I could only feel sympathy for the poor little bugger :(

Sycamore76 · 06/10/2013 12:55

Thanks miss plum. I do feel for him! He weaned himself off breast feeding at six months but has started to ask for milk all
Night ( toddler milk ) do you think I should just do whatever works ? Worried about creating bad habits. Did his sleep improve after the teeth came in ?
