10 month old not feeding!?

Hi. Trying to cut a long story short if poss here. Baby sick on milk from birth, given gaviscon, made no difference. Back and forth etc and by 6 months and 2 diff milks he's given prescription milk for milk protein intolerance. All fine with feeds but terrible nappies. Can deal with that instead of sickness. But he won't eat proper food, when now, nothing to chew as he gags and Is sick, baby food or purée food (veg and fruit, pots) he is constantly sick. Nothing ever stays in him for long. Half hour sometimes an hour at the most. He coughs and coughs or gags or burps and up it all comes. Constantly. We can't go out and feed him as it's to messy and we walk round the house with towels everywhere for when it eventually happens. Yogurts ironically will stay down. I've been back and forth to doctors who now say its a HV thing but it's them that fobbed me off for months when he was originally sick on milk. He's no longer sleeping as he's not full as he vane keep meals in. What do I do?? Please help. Can't take anymore of this. xx

What's his weight like? Has he lost anything?

Have you tried keeping a food diary? This can be helpful for any healthcare professional you deal with.

I think you need to get back to the GP ASAP and ask for a referral to a dietitian at the very least.

Is this a recent thing or has he been like this ever since you started weaning?

if it's always been like this I agree you need a referral to a dietary paediatrician. Can't believe the GP is saying it's a HV thing, can you see a different GP?

Thanks. I thought the same. It's been an on going thing to be honest. He's always been hit and miss with feeds and I thought it would improve with age but he's still the same if not worse at the moment and stage 2 milk isn't enough to keep him going. I think his weight is ok, been a while since I've had him weighed, but he's a big boy as his dads 6"4. I'm going to book another gp appointment and hope they listen to me this time as I really don't know what to do anymore. X

This may sound a bit random, but I had a conversation with one of the creche staff at our leisure centre and she described one of her kids (about 20 years ago) as being sick all the time after food and not being taken seriously by her GP. She was changing the sheets every night on their bed (eventually even took a puked on set in to her GP!). I think that she said the cause was eventually discovered that her child still had the stomach the size of a newborn so that they could cope with milk but no solids.

It may be a complete red herring but I think your GP should take more note. I can't see that it's a HV issue if he's being sick all the time.

Good news today we have been taken seriously by the doctor and given 2 new medications and for the first time in a very long time we have had a whole day sick free. Only used one set of clothes all day lol. Fingers crossed this is the start of something positive for the baby :-)
