has anyone put their 3yo back in nappies? I can't take much more of this!

Dd has been wetting herself numerous times every day for about 7 weeks now. I've tried everything.

She was dry for around 4 months before this.

Today I went to a child incontinence clinic, and was told it's quite normal, give her more (!) to drink, and take her to the loo at regular intervals.

Since this appointment (at 11) she has wet herself 4 times, and had 2 successful trips to the loo.

I just sat down in a puddle of her making. I feel close to tears.

Would putting her back in pull ups be a terrible idea?

Bump - I've done it .... Yet another wet patch while I was feeding ds, ended with dd & I both in tears :(

I've put knickers under the pull up, so she'll feel when she's wet...... If anyone's got experience of this can you tell me what to expect?

Well I wouldn't go back to nappies... DS1 is 3.1 and has been "potty-trained" since 2.2. He has had phases of being excellent and other phases of being really really awful. To get out of the awful phases, I just take him more frequently and ask him more frequently. Even now in a good phase he still takes himself to the loo at least once an hour even though he doesn't drink that much!! He tends to leak more than have full on floods. How regularly does she go? Or rather, how often do you take her? How much wee does she do each time? Suggest rewarding chocolate buttons or stickers (you may have tried already). What does she say and what do you say when she has an accident. Encourage going to the loo on her own without your help, and much praise for her independence and lack of accidents.

Does this regression by any chance coincide with the arrival of a new sibling...? We have had (and continue to have) serious issues with this since DD2 was born.

DD1 is dry with her grandparents, at pre-school, with her childminder and with DH if I am not there - but with me she purposely does every wee in her knickers. This has been going on for 7 and a half months and I am close to the edge.

The only thing that has eased it slightly is totally ignoring it. These days, she will sometimes do a wee on the toilet with me but mostly she does just enough in her pants to need to be changed, then will do the rest on the toilet. Taking her to the loo regularly just resulted in huge screaming and kicking tantrums every time, with her screeching that she didn't want the toilet and then 5 minutes later she would do it in her knickers. Sad

I have just accepted it now as part of my day - I have to change her frequently due to wet pants and I do at least 2 loads of laundry a day. At least she doesn't do it at preschool or in childcare - only for me.

Yes. Ds is 3.6 and now wears pull ups again when we are out as I can't carry enough spares. Our situation is complicated by recurrent u.t.i and the recent sudden death of dh, but I just wanted to say I'm with you on the frustration. We are seeing the clean and dry clinic too.

supergreenuk · 19/09/2013 22:06

I sympathise.
My friend said don't let them have black currant squash or juice as its a diarrhetic. Once she stopped giving it the accidents cleared up. Just a thought.
Mine regressed a few times. I too pulled out my hair and got proper fed up but we persevered and things are brilliant now. Keep going

Could it be an attention thing? We also had arrival of sibling. I have recently tried making him fetch and put on clean pants himself which he moans and complains about but can do.. When he is wet he will often sit on the loo demanding clean pants when I know he is capable of finding them himself...

Thank you all Flowers

Yesterday was a really bad day. I won't be putting her in a nappy today and I know it must have confused her.

I'm going to put her on the potty every hour, give chocolate buttons for successes and keep my temper!

I'll go into Boots and see if rescue remedy or Kalms might help ....

emsy no ds is 13 months. The regression co-insided with dd starting nursery, a couple of weeks after I stopped breastfeeding her too.

supergreen is that blackcurrant juice or any juice?

Tiredy, this is a really common reaction to a big change like starting nursery. Hang in there, she'll get there.

Survival, hope you're doing OK.

pooka · 20/09/2013 07:55

She seems to be peeing an awful lot if had 6 pees in 5 hours.

Has she been tested for a uti?

Ditto the advice about black currant being good to avoid.

TiredyCustards · 20/09/2013 13:18

survival I just saw your post, i'm so sorry for your loss.

pooka perhaps I should get her tested, it doesn't seem like she's letting it all out.

This morning I put her on the potty every 20 mins, and she did a wee most times...

How old is she? The incontinence clinic will not do anything until they're about 6 unfortunately.
It does sound like it could be a uti. Dd1 had several recurring ones caused by her not emptying her bladder fully (nothing she could do about it), she was sufferibg from an overactive bladder, probably brought on by all the utis. Drinking more helps stretch the bladder (thus increasing capacity) and also prevent utis.

I imagine she's still quite young so might just be a uti, but there is lots of info on this website: www.eric.org.uk

Good luck
