2YO DS has suddenly stopped sleeping

Hi all
Really don't know what's going on here. DS has always been a good sleeper. He is 2 next month. He has a nap in the afternoon, and bedtime routine is dinner at 6, In the night garden at 645, change into pjs, go to bedroom, milk, cuddles, songs. He is put into his cot halfway through the songs. Usually he lies there quite happily patting my leg, but on Sunday, Tuesday and last night (Wed) he just couldn't/wouldn't fall asleep. He was crying a lot, but it didn't sound like his pain cry. He doesn't speak much at all, so he can't tell us what's wrong. On Sunday he went quiet at 11, Tuesday at 11, last night it was 1am. We put a mattress on the floor in his room and he slept on that with me.

During the daytime he is at the childminders full time with 3 other boys. They play outside everyday, and generally have a great time together. He goes to cubs with DH on Tuesday, so that tends to be a later bedtime (but he is usually knackered and goes out like a light). We go to parent child gymnastik on Wednesday, and parent child swimming on a thursday. Both of these finish at 6.15 so we've been trying to eat before we go.

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but last Thursday he fell off a bench in the changing room after swimming and hurt hus shoulder. We went to the out of hours DR who sent us to casualty to get an xray. Casualty then declined an xray. Said they could see that the arm wasnt broken, but there might be a fracture in the shoulder, but those are left to heal by themselves. I don't know if maybe this has upset him and is affecting his sleep.

Wise MNers, could any of you shed any light on this?

Have you tried pain relief? I'd see if it helps and that would give you an answer as to whether it's th shoulder?

Yes we did give him some calpol. I took him to the GP yesterday who actually examined him properly (you know, touched him and moved arms and fingers etc). She thought she could feel something on his collarbone, so sent him for an xray at another hospital, which showed that he had broken his collarbone but that it was healing well. We weighed him adn upped the dose of calpol, and took him for a drive with the heat on at bedtime. He slpet through the night! Such a relief to know the cause and know what to do about it!
