Pre school wobblers - how do you cope?

DS3 is nearly 3 and has been at local preschool since Jan, three morns a week. He used to love it and would be upset on the days he didn't go. Since half term he's had a complete turn around. Comes in to our b/room at 6.00 asking "Have I got school today?" If yes he says he doesn't want to go. Always cries when I leave so am doing the dreaded - love you, be back at story time, have a cuddle with Mrs xxxx - and legging it. So sad to leave him like that. Always settles within a few mins and is fine when I pick him up.
Anyone have another less stressful strategy for getting him to settle and not wail after me as I hastily depart, madly crashing pushchair into doorways and other mum's ankles.

Im sure if I wasn't such a lazy arse I could do a search and find this topic has been posted many times before but thought I'd bump it and then stand back and wait for a round of raucous parping

Ask the carers if anything has happened to him (or in the class), as usually kids this age won't tell (at least mine!). They always go through phases when they don't want to go. When ds was around three he wanted to wave bye bye from the window in order to not get distressed by us leaving. Now (4) he always tries the "I want to stay home" because he's always absorbed in a game when it's time to go. I go pick him up, ask him how his day was and he answers that it's been lovely...

my ds (4) was the same it took a few weeks but he eventually settled.
