Tips needed to get my 2yr DD to stay at nursery

Hope someone can help.
DD whos just gone 2 has started a nursery for 2.5hrs twice a week. I thought it would be a good idea as MIL is finding it hard to look after her. However shes been going now for 3 weeks and only really stayed twice, the other times theyve called MIL back because she wont settle and is hysterical.
How can I help her to settle in?

it took dd lots of time to settle into nursery (I'm talking about probably around a month and a half). she started to be happier when she developed a special bond with one of the carers. she now loves it, and didn't mind when she was moved upstairs when she turned two. I know it's hard to see your baby in distress, but if you trust your nursry carers and think that going to nursery will be good for her in the long run, stick to it, at least for another few weeks. all the best
ups forgot to say that usually they allow for a few days of "induction", when you can stay (if you can) with her for a while, like an adjustment period.

kbaby, I sympathise as this is stressful! My DS was like this when we tried him at two (purely for some stimulation and social time) and I have to say I gave up as I didn't have to put him through it - I waited until he was pre-school age at 3 and he was fine to be left then......sorry, no help as I know you have to do this due to MIL....

my SIL wanted her DD in pre-school early (I think it was 2 yrs 5 months) as she wanted some time to herself before her new baby came, and I hae to say her approach was just to stick with it. Her DD was left at first until they realised it was just impossible, she too was hysterical and would not stop crying for the entire time she was there, two hours sometimes! It ended up that my SIL or my MIL sat with her DD for all of the time at first, for a few weeks, then they would stay for perhaps half the time, gradually reducing the amount of time they stayed.

It took months but they got there. I think it depends on how determined you are actually!

Good luck.

Thanks,

The nursery have suggested that maybe her sessions are too spread out out each time it feels new, so next week shes going for 1hr each day to see if she can get used to it a bit more.

In the long run I know shell like it but its so hard to leave her crying.

Hi kayzed.
Mil has a sick father and visits him every morning to get him bathed and dressed etc. At the moment she has to take DD with her and as DD is so active she constantly complains how tired she is. Shes not officially said anything to us but mentioned it to my mother etc how hard she finds DD. DD's not naughty but doesnt give you a minutes peace either! I also thought it would be good to have her in a nursery before Lo arrived as it would then give me some time with the LO.

Today she went for 1hr and was good and had a star but then tonight she cried when MIL left and keeps saying ' nana be back now' ' nana not leave me' so shes obv worried about being left.

She had a few settling in periods where MIL stayed with her for a bit.

I dont know if I should persavere(sp) or call it a day and try again when shes older.

oh kbaby this is difficult. i think the idea of giving her short periods more often is good. she'll learn that she will soon be picked up and then you can extend the time. would that be possible to do? i dont know what to suggest other than to stick with it and see if it improves. if not maybe try somewhere else?

she was good as gold on Friday. The nursery have suggested her going 3 times a week until shes more used to it which well do. I think the fact that each time she went and didnt cry she was given a star which I made a huge deal out of showing everyone.
I just hope the nursery have stocked up on stars as now she thinks she gets one each time.
