HV home visit after 2 year check?

Anyone else had this? The Health Visitors round here do routine developmental checks at 2 years, so I took DD along to the clinic when she was two (three months ago) - a few things where she wasn't bang on average, in particular her gross motor skills - she only walked at a week shy of 19 months. She also wasn't really kicking a ball, or jumping, or walking down steps very confidently at that age. But nothing I have been particularly worried about when I compare her to her peers - probably slightly below average on some of these things, but not hugely. And she is doing fine on lots of other developmental things (eg communication, fine motor skills etc).

Just had a phone call from the Health Visitor who wants to come and see us at home, watch how DD is doing and "suggest a few activities we might like to try at home". Anyone else had this? I am pretty surprised - I thought they were very stretched in terms of resources, and it seems a bit luxurious for HVs to do home visits to pretty average children. At the two year check, I didn't think they had any major concerns. I'm now worrying that they've had a referral from someone else for some reason - eg we go to various children's centre things. But surely she would have said?

Anyone else had experience of this?

Our 2 year review was at home so maybe its standard procedure?

Thanks. I think I'm slightly worried because we had the standard check at the clinic, and they didn't mention anything about a home visit three months later!

How odd. My DS has just turned two, and although he can kick a ball he still has to hold my hand to go down steep steps and he can't jump. I thought that was pretty normal - he certainly doesn't seem behind other toddlers his age. I'm sure you can't have been referred without being told, though.

Hm. Maybe they are just over-resourced! DH reckons that hardly anyone takes them up on the 2 year routine clinic thing so they pounce on anyone who bothers showing up!

It sounds good to me! Your HV is doing the right thing as there were minor developmental concerns. Easier for you if she visits you at home.

Thank you. Yes, it's no hassle for me, but in the current climate, when most public services are cutting back nice-to-haves, that the HV service still has resources to visit perfectly healthy children.

Did the HV at the 2 year check say she had any concerns or would be doing a follow up visit?

FWIW it doesn't sound like DD has any developmental issues.

Our HV did do the 2 year check at home. I suggested I came in but she wanted to come out. It was no odds to me. I wonder if they have to tick a box to say they have seen a certain amount of home environments or something?

I have long stopped questioning the whats and whys of HVs TBH. Mine have been useless when I've really needed health advice.
