do you think its too much for them to attend a group in the pm as well? Just dont want to wear DD out (3.5) but atm she's using "i'm tired" as an excuse not to do anything - should i refrain from taking her to afternoon groups. Does she get enough stimulation from preschool?

My friends little girl has gone to the pre school (at the school she will go into Reception in Sep) 5 mornings a week since last sep and then her Mum put her into a local play group for a couple of afternoons

she loves it, loves the structure and being with other kids

For me, Mine went in the mornings but I did do things in the afternoon whether it be a soft play or a friends house

We rarely stayed in, they didn't want to, they wanted to be out!!

Depends on each individual child I think

When ds1 started preschool (3 mornings initially) I stopped all activities (tumble tots, music, etc) but still went to a toddler group on one of his free mornings and swimming etc occasionally. But he was 2.5 then and still having an afternoon nap. Started swimming lessons when he was 3.5 (and doing 5 mornings) but nothing else.

Each child is different but if your dd says she is tired I would let her relax at home for the afternoon

We relax in the afternoon - DS likes getting his train set out all over the floor or maybe we go to the park and play football. Depends on the child. My DD is like me, always likes to be out and doing things and DS likes staying in to play with his toys. He'll be at school full time from Sept so I'm happy to let him enjoy his free time his way.

Depends on your child. DS -same age as yours - just does mornings at preschool. Has lunch, then often a sleep, later on we go to a park etc. When he is at childminders he often does something with her and the others in the afternoon, this tires him out by the end of the week and I think just one activity is enough.

I think its enough stimulation for my DS to have pre school in the mornings. Then he likes to chill out doing his own stuff in the afternoons.

I have a free day with him in the week and we either go out for the day or just stay at home, its on friday and he often is tired by then.

When I took my dd1 to pre-school(it only ran in the afternoon)there were a couple of mums who took their kids to a different pre-school in the morning as well. By the end of the session these kids were white-faced and tearful - it was too much for them (they were in 5 days a week too).

I'm having this kind of dilemma atm. DD goes to pre-school in the mornings and nursery some afternoons when I work. She does ballet on a Monday at 3.30 (after 3hrs pre-school), and I'd really like her to do swimming in September, but the only time we could do would be 4.30 on a Monday, after Ballet. So I don't know what to do, whether it would all be too much etc. She'll be 3.9 in September. I guess I'm a "cram it all in" person, so it's difficult for me to grasp that sometimes what I've planned is just too much. Anyone any views?

SImilar dilemma here - ds has pre-school nursery from August, but from 12.45 to 3.15 (silly time). Question is how many of his morning groups to continue...

SabineJ · 21/06/2006 16:39

I think it dpends on the child really. I wouldn't take DS1 to a group in the afternoon because h still ahving a nap (About 2 hours ...).
If he wasn't I think I would as he wouldn't like to stay in the house for so long - except for the garden [winck]
