Hi, Im hoping someone can give me some advice on how to help my 5 yr old son to get used to stopping at school without a fuss. Im at my wits end, it upsets me so much to leave him there when he is upset. When he is with me he is so shy, his friends will come to him in the playground and he will hide behind my legs looking at the floor. When he goes into class, they have to sit at their table and read with a parent, but as soon as I have to go he clings on to me and starts crying. When i pick him up he is happy and says he loves school but the next morning is always the same. Anyone got any advice?

I think the parents going in with them and sitting with them is probably making it worse. How long does this go on for, is it a settling in thing?

When you go in, keep telling him that you are just coming in for a few minutes and then will have to go to work/shopping etc. Then when you are in reading with him, give him plenty of notice that you will be going, like 'mummy will have to go in 5/3/1 minutes but I will be back to pick you up'.
I found my kids always reacted better if they knew something was about to happen, rather than just you standing up when the teacher says its time to go.

It lasts for 15 mins and I think its ridiculous, as I agree it makes things worse. I have given him notice I keep saying I have to go when the book is finished or that I have to go to do something. Maybe I should take him to school 10 mins later and the reading period is just about to finish.
