How do I get my LO to 'sleep to feed'?

Hi

I know people normally ask for the opposite, but I really wish my LO fed to sleep. At 3 months, she requires rocking, walking with, etc to fall asleep, and it takes an eternity and it is so tiring! I wish she fed to sleep. How can I get her to feed to sleep?

I must mention that she's been on medication for silent reflux for about a week now so maybe that was why she never fed to sleep?

you can't :(

my first 2 did, was bliss. my third refused and there just isn't anything you can do about it. ds3 would feed and feed and feed and feed and feed. then cry til he fell asleep, regardless of what I did Confused

It depends on timing sometimes. Eg leave it too late, theyd be too overtired. Also my two stopped feeding to sleep at around 12 weeks and started again when older except dd who only falls asleep if exhausted (20 months). They both had silent reflux.
With my dd who had tongue tie and silent reflux, I had to make sure she was winded before she could sleep. I also used a sling, dummy and went for a walk for most naps.

Some babies just don't :( You could try lying with her? DS used to sort of take it as a cue if we lay next to him and pretended to be asleep.

What happens if you put her down awake?

Samsean · 09/09/2013 09:31

Thanks everyone!

Talullah, if I put her down awake she will just keep and crying, and if she is distressed, she will refuse the breast.

Oh ok, just wondered if you had tries that - you might have been pleasantly surprised!

TallulahBetty · 09/09/2013 09:40

Posted too soon. What about white noise and swaddling?

Samsean · 09/09/2013 11:56

Tried both of those too. Nothing works!

Did you read the info on tongue tie?Smile

Samsean · 09/09/2013 15:22

Jilted, thanks! My LOs tongue tie was removed. However there's still 10% left, but the lactation consultants are unsure whether its worthwhile removing that.

Does she take down air when feeding? My dd was snipped but still took down air - either the tie or her lip tie meant her latch was dreadful.

But I would wind her after every feed and used a sling for naps until 4/5 months when I used the pushchair or occasionally would pop her into her cot with a light up seahorse and she would sleep (provided winded first - but I had to leave her briefly to see to her brother). Rocking etc was quicker as long as she wasn't too overtired.
