Is my 6month old baby an over fed glutton?

My baby is weaning, hes a big chap, just over 6-months but in 9-12months.

Hes always been a crap and fussy feeder, but since we began weaning him a month ago he has really taken to food big time.

I started off on jars to get a handle on portion size etc. Then when I was confident enough with consistency and volume, I started making purees which I keep in ice cube trays.

So...today he´s eaten just over one ice cube tray of food since breakfast and seemed really uncomfortable going to sleep. Im finding it really hard to get any idea of portion sizes and feed him really slowly, a couple of spoonfuls and I put away some dishes, a couple more and I make some tea etc.

Have I overfed him? Is there any rule of thumb as to how much they should be eating?

I'm no expert and DD is now 8 months old (started weaning at 5.5months) I started off with probably 4x ice cubes of fruit or veg purée once a day. Its probably only been in the last couple of weeks that were up to 3 meals a day. She has ready brek for breakfast 2tbs made up with milk, lunch is 1/2 a small jar or 1/2 a large Ella's pouch, about 80g, or we do cut up fruit/veg/cheese and about 60-80g of natural yoghurt same again for tea. She has 3x6oz bottles and 1x8oz bottle. She's off the scale for her length, and between the 50th and 75th centile for weight. I think as long as your feeding him healthy foods, the amount sounds fine. Are you giving carbs and protein or just fruit/veg? Smile

No, I mix it up, so he has porridge in the morning, probably five tbsp, lunch today he had 5 cubes of carrot and stewed apple, mid afternoon a bottle, then for dinner he had 5 cubes chicken and potato then three cubes apple.....he opens his mouth, so I feed the greedy little swine...he never vomits. He just loves his fod I think which is a relief after months of gunning and whinging over milk.

Sounds fine to me. DD is a pain with her milk, always has been, she took to solids better. I try and give her plenty of dairy in her food too so I don't have to worry too much about her bottles. She likes cheese and I think she'd eat the whole 500g tub of yoghurt in one sitting if she could Grin

I have a 7 month old pig and have been wondering the same. Today he has eaten a whole weetabix for breakfast and chewed on toast. For lunch and supper he had the equivalent size of a large jar (the 7 month plus ones) at both of puréed what we had. He's breastfed so I can't tell how much milk he takes now but we have fed 4 times today and ill do a dream feed in a minute.

It must be too much but he sleeps 7-7 so I don't want to mess with that. He hasn't been weighed since his 3-4 month check at Hv. We must be due another check soon.

Lilystem... With all that food and feeding 4 times today, u should cut out that dream feed

Pig ... Sounds about right to me

Beck That's a good point about the dairy....my current I'm is three meals a day, so yeah should try and get some cheese in there.

Lily, mines ever gone through....my elder son never did either, til he was three, so I'm trying to get number two cracked! Hopefully tonight hell sleep through.....he's eaten twice his usual amount so I'm feeling fairly confident.
