I'm having real problems with ds at the moment he's 13 months and has developed this fearless streak that's making my hair go grey !!! His latest is climbing on the sofa and throwing himself off it, I surrounded the front of the sofa with cushions so he threw himself over the arm instead. He look pretty surprised and cried. He then stuck his hand in a cup of coffee, lukewarm thankfully.
Anyone else got this problem?? is it a phase?? should we turn our house into a soft play area?? help!!!

its how they learn. your job is to make sure they dont do any permanent damage whilst they are at it.

my son was insistant on having the pepper pot one day - i said no he threw an almighty tantrum - and he wasn't one of those whingy shouty kids. but he was adament.

so i gave him the pepperpot. needless to say he never wanted the pepperpot again.

how do you know a tomato is squidy - squash it. how to you know not to climb up on the settee - it hurts when you fall off.

hi peanutsmum dd is 13months also and a complete nutter! We bought her a rocking horse for her first birthday and two weeks later she was doing stunt riding ie holding horses head and STANDING on its back rocking like mad. Or she just throws herself over its back and lands on her head. She climbs into her buggy - absolutely refuses to be lifted in, and as for the couch ...
I am totally amazed each evening that I have managed somehow to keep her alive for another day. I cant offer you any advice whatsoever but you are not alone!

Yep another one here ... needs to find the highest point in any room, takes the front off the speakers and pokes his fingers in, eats crayons ... all in the spirit of the great adventurer.
Smashed bottle of wine last week ... my own fault. What mad mother leaves a wine rack in grapping reach?

Terrifying and exhausting isn't it?

Go along with Custardo. You can't change your whole way of life. He will learn but have to say that my ds nearly 3 is still as fearless - now he dives off pontoons into lakes and bounces on trampolines like he's a spring. They do learn they just move onto other more adventureous things :o

thanks for your replies, I guess it is just part of the learning process, I better buy myself some decent hairdye. Of course it doesn't help that dh encourages him cos he doesn't want him to be a cissy:)Perhaps I ought to give him a slap - dh that is.
It's good to know I'm not alone though, he tried to climb on top of the telly today !!
