Am I correct in thinking MD'S a SALT?

All I want to know is when do children generally "grow out" of the lisp?
DD will be 3 in October and she has a very strong lisp.

I have been told its quite normal and they eventually grow out of it but when/how do you know if they have?

I wouldn't worry at all at this stage.
(Entirely normal for a 3 year old's speech to be 'odd'.)
Review when she is 5.

Moondog, can I ask a question too? My DD1 is six, almost 7 we were told when she was little that her tongue is a little too large for her mouth which was why she was such a dribbler. She saw a SALT at about 2 1/2 who thought she was fine. Now I've noticed that when she talks (with only a slight lisp) she gets lots of saliva and is a bit Roy Hattersley IYSWIM. Is there anything I can do to help, as it's only a matter of time before she gets teased kids being kids.

Sorry, tell me if I'm being cheeky asking.

i didnt realise you were a SALT, moondog, poor ds, was on the waiting list for 18 months for SALT, then got to the top of the list, the week before we moved..grrr..typical, now hes had to be referred all over again and hes already 5, so am trying to work on his weak areas at home .(i had been doing this whilst he was on the waiting list too)

I got side tracked.

GoW,I would help if I could (and no,you're not cheeky at all) but a) it is really hard online to be specific and b)motor issues like this are definitely not my area of expertise.

See if you can get a one off SALT assessment.
You should be able to self refer.
Ring up your local dept. and ask.

SC,how frustrating!! Angry

yes it is moondog, he went to a one off workshop in the summer last year for children on the waiting list, so ive been using the work he brought home from that to work on his speech, his prob is more immaturity due to glue ear, he probably wont need SALT, by the time he gets to the top of the list lol!

Thanks Moondog, perhaps it's the cheesestring I put in her lunchbox on the school trip that got her salivating Grin.

DH has got private insurance from work for us all, I could probably get GP to refer, so we don't have to wait forever.

And before you all start up about private medicine, sorry but when it comes to my kids I will use it.
