Morning time tears

DD (22mo) will sleep usually 7pm-8am. She would also nap 12-2. The last couple.of weeks, that nap.has reduced to one hour, sometime 12-1, sometimes 1-2. At the same.time, she has started waking at 6am.

Trouble is, her waking in the morning is not something she seems to want to do - lots of tears and asking for.her dummy.

If she wakes in the night and is upset we will go in to her and try and re settle. At six, if we try to re settle her, she gets so angry - thrashing in her cot, screaming, not asking to be up but just so.angry. Rather than leave her, ive been getting her up. It is then taking a good while to settle her - this morning she was still sniffling thirty mins after sitting on my knee.

If she was waking happy, I would just be resigned to.an earlier start, but she seems still tired Confused

Sounds like she's overtired. Is she resisting her nap? Does she have a routine? Can you put her to bed earlier to let her catch up?

MortifiedAdams · 01/09/2013 09:01

Goes down for all naps and sleeps very well, awake and drifts off.

There has been a marked increase in her 'stroppiness' over the past few weeks which I feel is down to lack of sleep.

At the moment she is tired and grumpy. Part of me wants to put her back down to sleep, knowing sje will do an hour, and give her another hour later (1, 2 ish). She is hard work when tired. When she isnt tired she is a dream.

Why not do that? You can always tweak again later.

One option is she could be teething - any sign of molars? They gave ds real trouble.

MortifiedAdams · 01/09/2013 09:06

Hmmm.....could be teething - she has.most of jer teeth. will have a poke aroubd.

Right, have put her down for a snooze - her eyes were rolling as soon as I lay her down.

Do I just put her back.on to two naps a day til she is back on track? I feel like she is regressing!

Hmm.....just having a GOogle and it might be an actual sleep regression. Language and other learning keeping their brains in overdrive Confused

She has, in the last couple of weeks, learnt her colours and shapes and some letter recognition....wonder if its all part of a phase

Yes could be! My 21 month old still has some days where she needs 2 naps and my eldest took until nearly 2 to drop to one nap.

So so glad I put her down for an AM nap - down at 9.10 and I can just hear her starting to stir now!

Wow that's a long one!! Hope she can catch up and get more sleep over the next few weeks.
