4year old starting school...toilet worries!

Don't know whether I'm looking for advice or reassurance, DD (just turned four end of July) starts reception next week, and can manage the toilet fine on her own if its a wee (despite yards of toilet paper and tidal wave hand washing) she struggles to wipe herself properly after a poo if its anything other than a rabbit dropping! (Sorry tmi) I probably haven't helped as have been there to do it for her at home, but she just doesn't seem to be coordinated enough to do a very good job! Just worried as don't want her to be left dirty/uncomfy/smelly. Just wondered if anyone had any tips, or if this is something teachers/TA's are used to in reception?
Thank you in advance!

From my experience my boys rarely do a poo in school and just seem to get on with it if they do, even though we wipe at home still. Reception staff are very used to dealing with toilet issues and usually happy to alleviate any concerns. Good luck with this exciting big step!

Yep - unlikely to poo at school and if she does its just skiddy knickers! No dramas.

Thank you, fingers crossed just skiddes then nothing more substantial! Will be getting lots of bum wiping practice over next few weeks Smile

I have the exact same concern as have tried this summer to teach my 4 year old to wipe his own. Have even cut off bits of paper in advance, for him to use but he refuses.

My son also starts Reception on Tuesday and I think it'll go either way - either he'll be sitting there for a while, until someone comes to help him or he'll just pull up his pants and be skiddy-knickered. Think we can expect a lot of washing by the end of the week. Fingers crossed Smile

I'm meeting my new reception class on Thursday! waves

VERY used to children struggling to wipe. Will help if absolutely necessary, but encourage children to do as much as possible on their own.

Perhaps put a small pack of wet wipes in child's book bag if she is worried about this. Wet wipes do a much better job than loo roll. Also, a spare pair of knickers in her bag might not be a bad idea, so she can change if she is noticed as being uncomfortable/smelly.

FWIW though, most children avoid pooing at school anyway.

Thank you, that's reassuring. She's not remotely bothered its me that's worrying about it...spare pair of nicks a good idea though!
