14mo not babbling

A close friend's 14mo does not seem to be babbling or making 'talking' noises at all. I recently spent a whole afternoon with him, and the only sounds he made were giggling noises when I tickled him.

I know all children develop at different times, but I'm just wondering if this is still within the 'normal' range?

Does your friend say he never babbles? Lots of babies babble only when they are with their primary carers.

My friend was with us all afternoon too. As well as her DH.

Some kids spend more time thinking than chatting. Just like some adults.

My dd rarely babbled at 14mo even at home.

At 18mo she babbles a lot at home but most of her babbling is single syllables of words and therefor largely understandable (with practice)

She is fairly sociable and happy to play with other kids but unlikely to babble around most people

The range of normal from 1-2 is staggering

One friends 18mo can play basic football. Another isn't walking.

A different friend 18mo could say the alphabet as recognise an draw all individual letters up to m Shock
Most obviously don't.

Apparently at 18mo tiger woods could hold and fairly accurately use a gold club Shock
Mine definitely doesn't

Another one whose DD babbles more with us than outside. She babbles happily and constantly to us so we assumed she did it away from us too. It was only when the nursery said, 'She's starting to babble more,' that we realised she had been much quieter there. She laughs a lot there but prefers to watch what is going on. Now that she's one of the bigger ones she is babbling a lot more.
