Sore bottom

Hi, my 6 month has started solids so her "waste" is more solid now but her bottom is bright red and she cries when it comes out. Any ideas? I've put Vaseline on her bottom assuming it stings when it comes out Hmm

Metanium. It is a brilliant nappy rash cream. Put it on every time you change her nappy and overnight for a few days and you should see a difference very soon. Also, as much nappy free time as you can get away with is really helpful.

Yes, metanium is the way to go.

Metanium!

PoppyWearer · 28/08/2013 11:15

P.S. the GP can prescribe Metanium for free.

Is it nappy rash then? It's just a sore patch round her back passage, it looks red and inflamed ?

Does sound like happy rash, I would also try bepanthen. I have heard brilliant things about metanium but it doesn't seem to work for ds, and bepanthen is not medicated so can be used every day, all day if sore, think metanium only should be used when happy rash present although I think they have brought out an every day version too? If ds is really sore, and if red and swollen sounds like it is, we use just water and cotton wool to wash too! Lots of people swear by happy off time, but now ds is Mobile the mess can be spectacular!

Happy rash :-)

Good typo redcar

It does sound like nappy rash. If it doesn't go away with one of the above mentioned creams you could nip to the GP as it could be thrush. My DD had this once, it is easily treated with a cream.

Eczema? My DS has patches of eczema on his bum. Hydrocortisone 1% helps.

tobiasfunke · 29/08/2013 17:29

Nappy rash. If you have any bicarb of soda - use a little of that in a bowl of water to wash her bum after nappy changes. Don't use wipes. Then get some metanium and apply it very thinly. Magic stuff.
Her poos are probably just a little bit acidic as her gut isn't used to dealing with solid food yet.

My DD has had near constant nappy rash since a few weeks old, we had shares in metanium, nothing else worked. Had to slap it on by the kg constantly! By 18 months metanium was no longer working... She is now 2.5 and we've been potty training after the last bout of rash-turned-eczema. If the skin starts going dry and flaky after using metanium but stays really red I'd suggest getting it checked out for eczema, but likely the change in diet means the poo is more acid or something. It might help to feed her lots of ripe pear along with pureed prunes or dried apricots added (soak in water then blitz). I also used to put water in everything she ate as she was REALLY constipated when we started weanig. Also try to get her to drink a bit of water.
