rolling & sitting up...

My dad is 12 weeks old and has been rolling since birth. He can do a full roll now onto his front and over again onto his back. His head is really strong and when lay down in his bouncer he sits himself up. Is he ok to do this? He looks too little to be sitting up. He won't damage his spine or anything will he?

Wow, strong baby! (lol at your dad ;) )
He won't hurt himself sitting up, but I'd be wary of leaving a sitting up baby in a bouncer - they can potentially get themselves tangled in straps or tip the thing over. Also if he's at the rolling/trying to sit stage it's prob better to leave him on the floor (on a blanket or rug if it's a hard floor) so he can practice his rolling and start working on crawling rather than being confined in a chair. Or is that just me? I hated seeing mine confined once they could move.

Yeah I'd never leave him in the bouncer it's only ever when I'm sat with him because he loves the toys on the bar. He's never been one you can leave even for a second because he gets around by rolling. Dd was never like this she didn't even attempt to crawl and just walked at 14 months so this is new to me!

DS2 used to do this at that age. He was walking by 9 months, so be warned! It was really odd to see a tiny baby walking Grin. Totally different to DS1 who didn't sit up until he was about 9 months or walk until 14 months

9 months! Gosh I bet that looked funny :) I'd better dig out the stair gates!

Just give him lots of tummy time, he probably sits up because he hates being confined in the bouncer being such a mobile baby! My dd is like yours and I just always had her on my lap, in the carrier or did tummy time so she could explore and move. She could sit up and crawl really early and just took her first steps at 7 1/2 months. She refuses to be strapped in a buggy or car seat because she wants to pull herself up everywhere and cruise around.

It's a bit exhausting as a parent but you know it's a good thing, usually they're happy once they can crawl and walk. But I think tummy time is healthier than sitting up in the bouncy chair because that builds up muscles he needs for crawling, whereas sitting as you noted yourself can be a strain on the spine. In the end they say the bones will be fine bc if the muscles weren't strong enough they would fall over, but I would still rather avoid too much time in the sitting position.

My DD1 was like this and was crawling at 19 weeks. Smile Fun times ahead, she walked at 10.5 months as well. Not really stopped since, so despite devouring the entire contents of the fridge daily is skinny as you like.
