Potty training 3yo DS

DS has just turned 3. We have been playing about with potty training for months. I'm kind of the opinion that it will happen when the child is ready, and potty 'training' isn't really necessary.

DS had been doing very well, he has been doing poos on his potty/toilet about 50% of the time for about the last 4 or 5months, and has on occasion (when not wearing clothes)taken himself to the potty for a wee without any involvement from us.

I honestly thought this summer we would have him fully 'trained'. However, he is still very resistant to sitting on the potty or toilet regularly. The last two days for example, he has been in washable training pants from 9am til 3pm refusing to go to the loo, today even having a nap and staying completely dry, and I have managed (after a lot of cajoling, some bribery and the threat of taking his trousers off him myself - he likes to do stuff by himself) to get him to sit on the potty while I get him an ice-lolly. Both days he has had a wee after only a minute or two. Great! But then he is refusing to sit on it again for the rest of the day, preferring to wee in his pants.

He starts preschool next week and I'm getting a bit desperate!

Hi!

We're potty training D.S (2.5) and having the same thing - he really doesn't care if he wees in his pants, doesn't seem to find it uncomfortable.

So, bribery. DS gets 4 chocolate-covered raisins every time he does a wee on the potty. No anger or reaction if he wees his pants, just treating it like a dirty nappy, but lots of praise if he does use the potty.

He still won't tell us when he needs the loo, but if taken to the potty once p/hour will happily sit and have a go. As long as there are chocolate raisins.

Maybe now that your DS has the concept down, it's time to be a bit more prescriptive and make him realise the potty isn't an option, it's mandated by society as the way people go to the loo?!

Yes, we've tried bribery, but the problem is now that he won't get stickers or sweets at preschool for going to the loo.

I can say to him "DS, come and sit on the potty for mummy, and perhaps we can find you a treat" the answer will just be no.

He doesn't like being wet, so will take his trousers and pants off (even going so far as putting them by the washing machine) and expects me to provide him with a clean pair! He has got me too well trained I think!
