I've just shoved a dummy into DS's mouth - at 6 wks!

DD (3.5) never had one but DS is forever sucking on our fingers so i figure this is far more hygenic and practical - please tell me i'm right Grin

Does he like it? Smile

I personally don't see what the problem is with dummies.

I breastfed both mine for over two years and on demand, but they both had dummies. Dd1 lost interest in it at about three/four months, dd2 at one year of age.

We gave dd2 one at 4 weeks to stop her sucking her hand, as long as you sterilise them evry day theres no problem.

He took to it straight away - was worried as also bfing but will see how it goes

both mine had dummies (both bf)from 6 wks and 4 wks respectively.
DS1 gave it up at 2, and I plan to take it off DS2 at same age.

My advice is to keep it for bedtime / naps only from about 6 mths, so he doesn't get in the habit of having it constantly in his mouth.

Agree keep it for bed/ naptime, but see no problem at all. At 6 weeks it shouldnt interfer with feeding at all, and may even help with feeding :-)
