How do we stop our 2.5yo running rings around us a bedtime?!

He's perfected the art of making himself vomit and if we don't do things his way at bedtimes, this is the outcome.

It's almost becoming a daily occurrence Confused it's absolutely ridiculous.

He likes DH to put him to bed but recently he hasn't been home in time- he works in agriculture- "make hay whilst the sun shines" and all that! As soon as I take him up for a bath he starts getting worked up and coughing and then the inevitable happens Angry

That said, he has done it for DH- tonight for example!

We are completely out of ideas how to stop the behaviour. We've tried everything from ignoring and clearing up without a fuss, we've got cross with him, we've made him attempt to clear it up- wont be doing that one again Confused

He's got absolutely no behaviour issues otherwise- his grandparents didn't believe us until they witnessed it for themselves!

Has anyone got any advice on how to handle it- it's getting beyond a joke now Sad

Sounds like you're trying all the right things, so only thing I can think of is if perhaps the length of time you're trying each thing for is insufficient?

article is quite interesting on habit forming/breaking too (but not specific to toddlers), so might be of use?

Hope you get it resolved soon.

Sympathies. One of mine used to do this. And at the same age. It will pass.

I am no expert and don't know what to recommend. We simply ignored the sick, changed him (and usually his entire set of bedding), no eye contact, no conversation, and eventually it stopped.

Could you try a sticker chart type reward? A sticker at bedtime if he has got through the evening routine without being sick, and/or one in the morning if he has gone through the going to bed and sleep without the sick? Hopefully someone far more expert than me will be along soon with some better ideas ....

Bumping in the hope that anyone knows the answer!

He's done it every night this week. We've cleaned him up without fuss and sent him straight to bed. But is this giving a reaction in a round-about way?

I'm seriously at my wits end with it now Hmm
