When to swap our double buggy for a buggy board?

Dd1 is 2.9yo and dd2 is 9mo.

We have been very happy with our Phil and Teds since dd2 was born but are starting to wonder when we can go back to our Maclaren as the P&T is very heavy and takes up a lot of space in the boot.

So my questions are...
From what age was your dc able to stand on a buggy board?
How long could they stand for?
Which buggy board do you have and do you recommend it?
How practical is it for city-centre use?
And is it easy to use even up steep hills?

Thanks all :)

DD was born when DS was 2y4m and we haven't got a double. It's not an issue at all. We have the My Child one from Argos, no problems. We are in inner London and it folds up very quickly on buses etc. DS does 2 miles or so at a time, he may well do fine longer but we tend to cycle if we are going further (or sling if hiking/off road). I haven't tried it on steep hills - we don't have any locally, and as mentioned, for hiking we use the slings.

Ds2 was 2.8 when he started using the buggy board when ds3 was born. No problems at all but he will now not really walk anywhere expects to be on the board!

DD is 2.4 and has been using a buggy board (with attachable seat) since she was 18 months. I had twins and alternated between stroller, board and sling for a good few months. Now she walks or uses board, hardly uses stroller.

Oh I use our Bugaboo board and seat for double stroller. Currently looking into one for my ABC tandem Zoom.

DS2 has preferred the buggy board since before his second birthday. The time I've spent pushing a buggy with no child in it... Grin

DS1 was 2.9 when DS2 arrived and happily used the buggy board from then on. Before that he had been in nursery at least two days a week so our walking time had been limited, but we hadn't used the buggy much since he turned two.

It does depend so much on the child though. Mine were/are both buggy refusers once they could walk reasonable distances; DS2 only really tolerates it if he needs a sleep.

Having a single with a buggy board, and a lightweight sling stashed underneath, is the best solution IMHO.
