5mo trying to roll in sleep but keeps getting stuck

For the last few weeks our now 5mo ds2 has been waking up thrashing about in his cot, like he's trying to roll over to get more comfy but can't. He can roll both ways when awake but tbh doesn't seem to be that bothered about it & is quite happy to stay where we plonk him. Until the middle of the night.
Every night he keeps thrashing about, getting his leg stuck, ends up wedged sideways wriggling around all with his eyes closed. I have been picking him up & feeding him but when he goes back down it's only for an hour until it starts again until he ends up in bed with me for a cuddle at 5.30ish. Last night I tried just moving him & unwedging his leg & he went back to sleep after about 30 minutes of wriggling / unwedging as he wasn't showing any hunger signs. We had a similar episode with ds1 but moving him to a bigger bed helped but we can't this time as he's already in a cot!
Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions on what we can do?

Our 5mo is similar - he thrashes his legs about in his sleep, mostly lifting both legs up at the same time then slamming them down on the mattress, for about 20 minutes a few times each night. He stays asleep but I don't!

I wouldn't suggest picking him up or feeding him unless he shows clear signs of distress if it wakes him up, or shows that he's definitely hungry, as that will just give him an incentive to wake up for food during the night.

Maybe it's just a developmental thing - there's so much going on at this age that maybe their bodies just carry on being active even when they are sleeping? I have taken to wearing earplugs, but only so they are halfway in - that way it dulls the sound but I'll still hear if he is upset.

Awww... isn't that a lovely stage? (NOT).
Sadly, I think you'll just have to soldier thru.
