My DS will be 3 in October. He still can't jump with two feet, just hops from one foot to the other and steps off things. Has anyone else experienced this and can I do anything to help him?

My son has only just worked that out and he is nearly 4. He is now trying to skip.

He used to play on mums trampoline and think that's how he worked it out. My sister is 3 month younger than him but been jumping/skipping/hopping for ages

My local park has a trampoline thing that's over a hole so is at ground level... Does that make sense?
It's awesome!
Or maybe one of those little trampolines from elc or the like.
I take it you don't have any concerns about his development in general.

Ds was like this and I was told it can be normal until age 5. However, now he's 6 and though he can jump its become apparent he's hypermobile so maybe check that out?

DS1 only got the hang of it a month ago at 2.10. He just suddenly did it one day jumping into and out of a hoop on the ground. I think he saw some older kids jumping at the park and it stuck in his mind. He just looked at me and said "mummy! jump!" and did it! I was quite surprised as he never showed any signs of letting go on his little trampoline thing before.

My son couldn't jump until he was about 5, he is hypermobile too and has hypotonia. If you're concerned then mention it to the hv.

DD only starting jumping about a year ago and she turned 4 in June.

However, she also didn't walk until 18 months. She was concentrating on mental development instead and was doing puzzles at 6 months old. She didn't have time for moving! Wink

She's fine though now and although (because of her very tiny legs - she's very little) she still takes longer to get to places than most, her legs are doing what they should.

Keep an eye on it, but I'm sure he is fine.

What's does hyper mobile mean?

He's pretty good in most areas, certainly social development type stuff, talks and interacts well with others. He's not great on stairs (but we live in an apartment, so doesn't get much practice) and runs a bit like he's fast walking. He's for one if those little trampolines, but he just holds on and bends his knees. We did actually see him do a single jump the other day (being a kangaroo at bedtime!) and both hubby and I were over joyed. He seemed to have no idea he'd done it though and hasn't done it since.

Our ds1 is 3 in september and can't jump with two feet together yet. Perhaps make a game of jumping over sticks on the ground? We were worried at first as our ds has always been very cautious physically but now we just take it as it comes. Today he got on his balance bike for the first time after buying it 4 months ago. He'd just been pushing it about til now!

My DD didn't jump until she was about 3.5, I was really worried but have now realised with her that she simply won't do something until she is ready. She walked early (and will walk for miles without complaining) but is quite cautious physically e.g. late jumping, not really starting to scoot until 4.3 (all her friends seemed to have been doing it at 2.5), still can't really skip (4.10), only got on her balance bike the other day and shows no real interest in it. But I have noticed that when she is ready she will do it near perfectly. And she again was busy concentrating on mental development and is v advanced reader etc. I am assuming/hoping it will all balance out in the end and in the meantime trying to encourage as much physical activity as possible.
