My dd is frantic in that she won't sit still AT ALL. I can't read stories to her or sing to her. She is just not interested. I have stopped going out for coffee with friends as it's just too painful. I have 3 other dc's and would love to spend some time doing arts and crafts or playing a game but my dd has to be on the go. I am only able to write this as I am feeding her to sleep. I can not really do any tasks that require concentration or standing still. She also doesn't respond to her name or acknowledge being talked to I.e doesn't hold eye contact which makes me wonder if she has a hearing problem? She is crawling and cruising on furniture.
Does anyone else have a baby like this? Please tell me it gets better and I have just forgotten this age!
TIA

My ds is almost 8 months and also does not keep still,he is constantly on the go and I find it hard to do activities with dd. I am really hoping it is a phase that he will grow out of.

Does your dd respond to other noises? If you are concerned about her hearing I would go to gp. In my experience they are more than happy to refer for hearing tests.

My ds (10 months) is the same. Literally on the go from morning til night, only occupied for about 5 seconds before moving onto something else (usually socket, wire, ornament eg something he shouldn't!) and is just a complete bundle of energy. Friends and family find it hilarious Hmm so I think its not the norm as such but I'm not too worried as I know his hearing is ok. He seems to have got more wriggly since he started crawling 2 weeks ago-maybe the novelty?

my 9mo DD is like this from the second she wakes up, apart from when she's napping, she's going hell for leather exploring and playing. She lasts about 10 seconds before moving onto the next thing. Meal times can only last a max of 10 minutes before she's fed up and wants to get out of her high chair to see how many kitchen drawers she can open in the space of about 30 seconds...

I think it's pretty normal, they are excited and exploring the new world around them with their new found mobility. She does respond to her name and will hold eye contact, so the hearing is probably worth a quick investigation but I would bet she's just excited by her life right now!

The not responding to her name thing can be deceptive. Does she react when she hears Dad or another family member talk as they arrive in the room? If something rings or buzzes does she look up?

It's hard enough when it's your pfb and you are unsure what's typical, if you've had DCs already and she is markedly different in that regard from her siblings I think I would wonder too. However one thing I was told, they are pouring all their energy and focus into concentrating on every new skill as it emerges, sometimes they almost 'forget' something they managed earlier.
