If you had a blonde baby-boy, how long before he got a full head of hair?

DS is 22 mo and, although his hair has been growing quite a lot, you can still see the veins in his head and he doesn't have a full covering yet.

DH says this is quite common in the UK but where I am from babies tend to be born with mops of hair, and even the blonde ones who are born with little hair generally all have quite a bit more hair by this stage.

People have started asking me in the street how come his hair is not growing and whether he has been ill. Should I be worrying about this or is it usual for Northern European blonde babies?

I think it is normal. There's a huge variety of hairiness.

Ds3 has by far the most, he was born with loads and it's thicker every day - he's 7mo. He's very blonde at the moment but I think he will go darker like me and ds1. Ds1 was all bald at the back for months!

I wouldn't worry, is what I'm trying so badly to say.

Sounds about right. DS had wispy curls by 18 months but you could still see his scalp. He didnt get a full head of hair until he was about 3.

DS had his first cut at 2.2 I think. Very thick now six months later, it just came all of a sudden

Both mine were practically bald until about age 3.

MeeWhoo · 09/08/2013 16:39

That is reassuring, I guess it's all normal then :)

It's just that we are not used to toddlers having such little hair over here so he stands out a bit, but I'll put it down to his British genes and stop worrying!

My white blond DS was really bald until about 3 yrs. He also had a very visible vein running down towards his ear. By 4yrs he had a beautiful thick head of blond hair and it's gorgeous. Hair worth waiting for!

I used to get all defensive when people said DS had no hair. It was white blond so you couldn't really see it. When I look back at photos now I have to concede that they had a point - he really didn't have enough to cover his head until he was at least 2.

He's got lots now when I can stop him from getting it all cut off Grin

my blondie didn't get his thick head of hair until after 2 years. Not sure its true but its said that those who get hair later often end up with the thickest and best quality hair. I know i didn't have any hair at all until after one and hairdressers still comment now (im 40 this year) what good, thick hair i have

Sadly my 16mo DD has very thin white blond hair and is often mistaken for a boy. I actually had someone make a quite rude comment about her being bald at a baby group when she was about 7 months old!
But it is starting to curl a bit and I am very much looking forward to gorgeous blond curls hope it won't be much longer to wait!
