7month olf little lady is boooooored

Quite simple really my little girl is just 7 month old she gets bored of all of her toys really quickly and just lays around and either growls or shouts loudly!! And while this is cute for visitors, when you experience it for longer than an hour it can be pretty draining!

I've come to the conclusion she must be bored of her toys. She's recently learnt how to sit up so I've introduced a new fisher price toy she sits at and a kind of 'wack a mole' sing and light show sets off and there's blocks etc. This keeps her entertained for ages , not a grunt a growl or a screech to be heard!! HALLELUJA!!

Any Toy advice anyone can pass on I've spent tonnes of cash on toys that she has shown no interest in so I could do with the help.

Thanks guys

The dreaded screech! My DD2 is same age.
Tbh I find that swapping toys round fairly frequently works, and swapping whether she is sitting or lying down or on someone's knee. She has today started to crawl(but into backwards) so that has provided some novelty factor to keep her amused. I do notice that the screeching tends to get more frequent when she needs a nap and she has two, sometimes three naps a day still.

I think they generally prefer household objects to toys at this age - pots, pans, toothbrushes, whisks, old phones, TV remotes, coloured bits of fabric, wrapping paper, cardboard tubes, boxes, tins etc.

Door bouncer. Jumperoo type thing. Put the toys in a basket and sit her in front of it to throw them all out. Teething gel.

All work for my just-mobile 8mo :)

Thanks for the replies. Yeah Giraffeski she crawls backwards too which gets her all mad if shes trying to reach for something lol

can I ask what kind of toys / things you give your kiddies to play with?

The jumperoo was a godsend for my dd at that age - they are a bit expensive, but they can be sold on for a decent price. And really, what price your sanity/ the ability to have a shower/ make a cup of tea?

purplepidjin great basket idea!!

seems gimmicky and poncy but they really do hold their attention for far longer than bleepy plastic tat :)

moomoo2013 · 05/08/2013 14:25

she has a door bouncer but it scares the life out of me when she bounces with a bit too much gusto towards the door I was literally just looking at a jumperoo online! Thanks calamity Jones

Try seeing if you have a 'toy library' near you. You can then borrow toys when you like, return the ones she doesn't like and get new ones and if there is something she really enjoys you can decide whether or not to buy one for her.

We started off buying new but once you've picked up some good bargains in charity shops you'll honestly wonder why you ever spent so much on new. We save buying new for big 'investment pieces' eg toy kitchen, workbench, scooter etc (DD is now 22 months btw

Research suggests that natural materials will hold their attention longer than plastic. Look up heuristic play and treasure baskets. Try filling a basket or bag with things like

Wooden spoon
Different fabrics
Scourer sponge
Wool
Metal lids
Cotton reels
Herbs in organza bags
Paper

Just try to avoid plastic

Splatt34 · 05/08/2013 17:37

Agree with the treasure basket. If you are buying toys look on ebay or Facebook selling pages or nearly new sales. second hand definitely the way to go!!
Do you go to any baby groups? See what she plays with there

Ds is 7 months and he is now crawling and pulling himself up and he seems happier than he has ever been in his short life, he spends hours crawling up to each bit of furniture, pulling himself up, looking proud and then moving onto the next bit, so soon life will get much easier for you :)

Before ds became mobile he enjoyed unpacking his treasure basket and banging spoons/whisks/spatulers on a metal pan, he also loved plasticdrink bottles filled with things ( you can put the things they really want to play with but that are cloaking hazards in the bottle andif the lid is secure it is safe) we had beads and ribbon and cotton wool, water with washing up liquid in one so when he shook it it foamed up, his favorite toy ever is an empty coke bottle with 2 coins in it, so simple. We have been given toys but we have never bought any ds really seems just as happy ( or happier) with things from around the house.

The only real solution to ds's frustration was to go out, Iwwould often take him out nearly all day as he was happy watching the world go by from his buggy)sling.
