DS (2yrs) dropping centiles in height - should I be worried?

DS was 55cm at birth (which I think was the 90th-ish centile). He then 'stabilised' for a long while on the 75th centile and was equal for height and weight. I measured his height today (he's just turned two) and plotted it myself and he's now around the 25th centile. I didn't weigh him but he looks an ok weight (not too chubby and not too thin...not very scientific, I know!)

He's always been a good eater, is fed a healthy diet, and I have no concerns about his nutrition. Equally, I have no concerns about his general development (his language is good for his age and his motor skills seem fine).

I'm just really worried that his height has plummeted down the centiles. DH is 6ft, I'm 5ft7 so I wouldn't have thought DS would be genetically predisposed to be small.

Should I take him to the GP?

When ever I measure my kids they always come up smaller than the docs. I'd get him measured properly if your concerned. Seriously my own jobs ate always way out.
Might just be due a growth spurt. If he's fed well and seems fine I wouldn't worry.

I'd question the accuracy of the measurements too - my height was measured two years ago and appeared to be an inch shorter than the height I thought I was. The nurse did it again.

A few months ago DH, DCs and I decided to measure our height after debates about who was taller (!) and I appeared to have grown half an inch since the day the nurse took the measurement!

We're taller in the morning - during the day the spine gets slightly compressed apparently.

I wouldn't think there's anything to worry about with your DC's height.

Also he could have inherited genes for being short that you and your DH carry, but are not the dominant genes - or be just about to have a huge growth short.

DH and I have two left-handed children despite neither of us being left-handed! DS tans well too even though DH and I have very fair skin that barely tans at all. We think he got his paternal GF's good tanning gene!

Thanks for responding. My DH is going to pop to the HV clinic this afternoon to get him measured properly so we'll see what they say!
