ds has just turned one and the weather has just turned very sunny.
when i put his hat on for playing outside he immediately removes it.

every time.

time and time again.

are there any top tips for keeping hats on? we've tried hats with elastic round his chin, but he makes it his life's work to get it off.

lummox, I'll happily send you one if it will help!

UCM - love the hair!

At one ds was the same but we found that if we had something lined up to distract him (raisins, special drink, toys, funny faces) for a couple of minutes the hat would stay in place.
Doesn't work any more, though. :(

trib - that's a really kind offer, but we're back in the UK for a couple of weeks at the end of June so I think by the time it arrived we'd be nearly in the UK. If it's not too cheeky though, I might call on you if we have any other emergencies.

today ds managed to keep the hat on for as long as i was actually pushing him on his trike, but it was removed immediately i got too tired to carry on. i'm thinking of that as progress.

I had same problem with my DD last year, then about 13/14 months.

I just told her. no hat no play. I gave her 3 strikes and she was out (did that with other things as well).

The 3rd time she took it off, I picked her up and brought her inside.. only needed to be for a few minutes as talked to her and said that if she took it off we would come back in again.

I only had to do this a few times and she learnt to leave it on.

I was surprised it worked from such a young age, but I think because I did the 3 strikes and you are out with other things she seemed to understand very young.

Now she is 2.5 and doesn't get 3 strikes, just the 2... hopefully will be 1 next year then.

DD (14months) is happy to play in her hat (it's one that ties under her chin), but once she's in the pushchair going home, she has the time to work at the knot and gets her hat off and throws it out of the pushchair... we're always having to retrace our steps to find it. grrr.
I've bought a \link{http://www.therainshed.com/images/hardware/B-LOK-95.jpg\cord lock} thing that means that there's no knot to undo and until she's strong enough to undo the cord grip, the hat stays on.

lummox, no probs. We have a big out of town M&S nearby which we are in quite frequently, so can oblige!
