Help-wandering 4 year-old

Our four-year old daughter has a habit of getting up and wandering around the house. It doesn't always wake us up straight away, and so we are concerned for her safety. In the past, we have caught her fiddling with the knobs on the cooker (which was thankfully turned off at the wall!!), and turning the hot tap on in the bathroom and other such dangerous activities. For information, we live in a ground floor flat that is all on one level, so no stairs at least, but that does mean she has easy access to the front door (also locked at night).
Has anyone else had any experience of something like this?? What can we do?

(my husband has suggested a contact alarm for the bedroom door but these all tend to be extremely loud, and as it mainly seems to happen in the early hours, we are worried about upsetting the neighbours

Ideas on a postcard......

Baby gate?

I second the babygate! Smile My son's 4 and has one on his bedroom door. I put it there originally to stop him falling downstairs during the night because his door is very near the top of the stairs (my stairs aren't suitable to attach it to). My bedroom door is just across the landing from his, so if he gets up during the night I can hear him straight away because he usually shouts, without worrying about him wandering about.

Bell on the door and have a baby monitor for her room.

Also tell her to call out for you when she wakes up? Give her stickers or something for staying in her room?

I assume she's not sleep walking?

I would put a hook and eye lock on the kitchen door to stop her going in there.

Thanks for the replies ladies

The hook and eye on the kitchen is a good idea, thank you!

Just to clarify something, would a baby gate mean that her door would have to stay open? If so I cant see that working because her bedroom is next to the living room and she'd never go to sleep!

And lastly she is definitely not sleepwalking. She's alert and talking to us when we catch up with her.....
