Getting baby into Moses basket during day?!

Hi All,

As a first time Mum I'd be really grateful for some tips on how to get my 7 week old DS to sleep in his basket during the day.

At night, I can put him down asleep without any problems and he'll sleep for 3-4 hours until his next feed and then go back down.

But when he naps during the day, I just can't put him down - he wakes the minute I start to lower him. This means I get no sleep myself in the day and nor can I get anything done - I'm exhausted.

He has silent reflux but I can't understand why this is an issue during the day but not at night.

Any thoughts??

I found a blackout blind really helped me get DD to settle during the day.

We have a swinging thingy that DS loves, I put him in it at naptime and he's asleep in minutes and I can move him to his Moses basket.

Well, a few suggestions.....

-try laying baby down by slowly putting his head/upper body down first then lay his legs down gently last. Move slowly, keep a hand on him if he prefers for a time.

-may I personally suggest try using his crib for naps and the basket for night sleep. This makes it easier to transfer to a crib in my own experience and gets them used to their room. Currently DS2 is nearly 6 months and we still put him down for naps and to bed in his crib, then just transfer him to his moses basket when we go to bed (after his dream feed).

-try putting a rolled up blanket or whatnot under the head of the crib or put a pillow under the head end of the feet on your basket holder so baby is at slight incline for reflux.

-white noise can be very helpful. We use the one of those sleep sheep's but even better is a white noise machine that wont turn off on its own.

-Its helpful to practice putting them down when they are not entirely asleep so they are used to being put down awake but very sleepy. I also suggest letting him spend some awake time in his crib/basket before and after naps when awake. For example, fold the laundry in his room while he is enjoying his mobile or whatever.

-we swaddle - that can be helpful to getting baby to sleep if that is your cup of tea.

-Both of mine have really enjoyed having a light show/musical thingy in their crib (that is professional terminology Wink). DS1 had a Fischer Price musical fish which would mesmerize him to sleep (but eats batteries in gross quantities), DS2 has a Cloud B aqua turtle which is so relaxing it can lull me to sleep.

Just a few thoughts. Good luck OP.

Go out for a stroll with the pram instead which means her gets to snooze and you get some fresh air or try a sling which means you are hands free while you rest or do stuff

Could you prop up the head end - it might help the reflux. Yes yes yes to swaddling and blackout and white noise. We used our Dex bear for 18 months.... Admittedly by the end it was to try to cancel out the bellowing big brother running around downstairs during naptime. If your bfing going soya and dairy free can really reduce reflux as can the better meds such as omeprazole. Handhold as velcro babies are exhausting.
