Air conditioning units for babies room

We are having huge problems keeping out LO's room cool at the moment. It's south facing and is like a sauna, even with the window open and blackout blinds up all day. We have bought a tower fan but it just circulates the warm air around and our 8 month old just doesn't know what to do with herself. She sleeps in just her nappy and a summer grobag - we tried without the grobag and as she's very mobile she kept getting limbs stuck in the cot bars. Last night she woke crying at 12, 2, 3, 4 and then 5! I know we hardly ever get weather this hot but do you think it's worth investing in a cheapish air conditioning unit?

No, they are very expensive, noisy and very cold even on the lowest setting. Put some her fave soft toy in the freezer before bed, also leave as many windows open upstairs before you go to bed, even stay upstairs with in your room if you are worried about scutiry, it's getting much cooler in the evenings and you can release that air into her room which makes a huge difference. It's just grin and bear it at the moment!

We bought one last year in desperation and it does work to cool his room down, but we don't leave it on all night, we just use it to take the edge off the heat at bedtime.

I have exactly the same problem. What I have done is buy an air cooler, sat it infront of the open window (with blackout blinds up, blackout curtains closed, but window open) so it can suck in the air and cool it, but it only cools the room about a degree and i stick ice packs in the water bit too. My DS's room is about 29 degrees at night....

I put him in a vest and nappy and have an air wrap bumper around his cot so the air can get through, but he can't whack himself on the bars. I also have a fan rotating in his chair! I have to keep the door open, which means light coming and him waking earlier than usual, but 5am is better than 5 times a night....

I am HATING this hot weather, when I would usually love it!

GiveMeVegemite - you sound exactly like me!! Her room touched on 30 last night - ridiculous! Before having her I would have basked in this weather!!

I am using an air con unit for my 5 month old. It is on in the nursery all night with LO in just nappy and vest. This is doing the job so far in keeping her cool (though we are constantly checking throughout the night as so paranoid about her over heating)

I got an air cooler by accident as I intended on an air conditioner - REALLY wish I had got the latter. My DD won't sleep without her gro-bag and even in just a nappy and a 1 tog one she has a sweaty head. Her room with the air cooler and fan on + open window is still 27 / 28 at night!
