Why has dd started wetting herself?

We toilet trained her at Easter and she was dry in les than a week. The past couple of weeks she has been wetting herself. First time was a nursery and we just thought she was distracted but yesterday she did it twice. First time downstairs, I asked if she was ok because she was standing awkwardly and she said yes then she weed. Second time she was upstairs ready for her bath and just weed in her bedroom doorway.

She's just gone downstairs now and weed on the floor! I'm really, really cross (not showing it). She was three last month btw. I think she's just got into a bad habit of not being bothered to go...not sure what to do, is it normal for them to take a step back?

If it has come on that suddenly and happening often, it would be worth getting her checked for a uti.

I wouldn't say it's come on suddenly, she first did it a few weeks ago and it's getting more frequent. There's no signs of a uti do you still think it's worth checking?

I would check for a uti, dd had one a few months back and she didn't have any other symptoms that we picked up on other than occasionally weeing spontaneously until she was sick and got a temperature, antibiotics sorted it out and all you need to do is take a wee sample.

Equally though it might just be that she forgets she needs, I've found that dd (3) often forgets to go to the loo until the very last minute.

I honestly don't think she forgets I think she just doesn't want to go.... Would it be a bad idea to get the potty out again? She always preferred using it..or getting a double step so she can reach the loo on her own?

I will pop into the doctors tomorrow for a sample pot to rule that out. Thank you Smile

Once you have ruled out any chance of UTI you may find that it is just because she has regressed a little.

Quite often little ones I have looked after have potty trained really easily and successfully only to regress a little when their friends start potty training. It's as if they are, almost, copying their peers behaviour - difficult to explain, sorry! It doesn't last long, just carry on as when she was learning - no comments on the accidents, praising when she gets there in time.

Perhaps as you said, give her the option of potty or toilet to give her some control.

my dd was 3 last month and potty trained at xmas, she's started having accidents too, i think they do just get distracted/tired etc. i tend to ask her more frequently to go and 'try and squeeze a wee'. getting the potty back out does seem like a bit of a regression... have you asked her why she didn't manage to make it each time? could you try reminding her and an added incentive of new pants or something?

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2013 08:17

We ask her and she says 'I just did' Hmm think we are going to start putting her on the toilet, like you say, just to try and go back to lots of praise.

At nursery she uses a potty rather than the toilet (no idea why) maybe if I put the potty downstairs she has slight mobility issues so I wondered if the stairs are too much effort for her to be bothered with but she weed upstairs last night Confused
