Settling a 14 week old

My DS fights day time napping. He power naps on me after a feed for about 20 minutes, but if I put him in his cot he wakes, grizzles and ends up crying.

I've tried everything in the book, but he only really sleeps in the day if I put him in the pram and push him. Even then it takes him a good 20 minutes to sleep and he wakes the moment I get back.

I'm not getting a minute to myself and am on my knees. As a result of this he's very poor at settling in the evening, he still doesn't fall asleep till about 9pm or later.

I have no routine with him at the moment - have tried putting him down at certain times of the day, using a dummy, blackout curtains,...

Not looking for answers really, just would appreciate people sharing similar stories if possible. Thank you Thanks Smile

I found getting a napping routine in place first, and then working on naps in the cot, worked for me. Though DS was a bit older, maybe 20 weeks.

So at designated nap time every day I either walked with him in the sling, fed him to sleep and held him, or took him to bed with me.

Once he was in the habit of napping at x o'clock, then I started putting him in the cot. Eventually I actually had naps (45 minutes at a time at first) with him in the cot where I could do something else Grin.

I would really work on good daytime naps first, however you can make them happen. Once he was napping regularly in the day then evenings/night times improved so much.

Thanks, may be I'm putting him his cot too early then. When he does settle at night in the cot he's fine, but he does not like going in it during the day.

Sounds exactly like my DS at that age. His sister is now about 16 weeks and a totally different kettle of fish - she's upstairs just now and hasbeen sleeping for the last 2 hours. Babies are so different (true cliche).

By the time DS was 7/8 months I left him to cry one nap time, like about 2 minutes, and I noticed he was settling down. Left him to it and he fell asleep. This was a turning point. Didn't sleep through till about 14 months though, but sleeps like an ANGEL now so don't give up hope.

Ooh, this is me, exactly! Can't write a long post now as going to bed to try to catch up on terrible night's sleep. But please read the "baby sleep problems - help" thread on here that I started this morning, if you're interested. You'll see that I have exactly the same problem and you're not alone.

This was just my DS so you have my sympathy. Has he been checked for tongue tie? That turned out to be behind my DS' behaviour.
