Could cranial osteopathy hurt or damage my baby?

My baby is around 6 weeks old and has been a very very fussy baby from the very start. I delivered her through ventouse and she has a cone head too.

Basically she has been very unsettled, wanting feeds every hour or so, and she seems upset a lot (very frowny). She is also very clingy and will only settle on my chest. She also refuses to lie her head down flat, and moves her head to the side.

I have been wondering whether cranial osteopathy might help her, and I know the NHS doesn't recommend it due to lack of evidence. Does anyone if it has the potential to damage her if it wasn't done properly? I am obviously willing to try anything to make her happy and if it doesn't work despite however much I pay, that is fine with me, but obviously I can't take a risk if there is a possibility that it could damage her in any way.

As far as I know it can't cause any damage, I had problems with DD & feeding and took her to see a cranial osteopath at 6 weeks, it was fab. Can't honestly say if it did or didn't help, they did however spot a tongue tie that was missed by all docs, midwives and health visitors so it was worth it if just for that!

It was very non evasive, you are with your baby the whole time. They hardly touch them really, it's very gentle manipulation to ensure everything is aligned.

Evidence aside when something comes out at the rate our babies do it makes sense to me to check everything is where it should be! Labour is traumatic enough for us let alone them!

Took my ds when he was 4 months old, he was prem and really unsettled, quite high needs really.
Had 3 sessions and after the third he was just a lot more settled, didn't need to be held all the time and just seemed more relaxed.
Maybe is was coincidence maybe not.
If you can easily afford it I would.

No, I have had it done since I was a child. It really is very gentle, touching with finger tips, they hardly move you at all.

It definitely does not cause any damage at all.

One of my children has had it and I have too.

It can work miracles.

I plan on taking 2 of my children during the holidays for top ups.

Don't know but sounds very much like my DVD to me (and normal)

DS saw a CO at 4 days old and would recommend to everyone. We are in dorset and can recommend ours if you are local ish?

My DD got her poor head and neck all bent up in labour. She couldn't move her head to the right or open her right eye fully. Feeding was a hellish nightmare.

4 sessions with a CO and her face was normal, mobility improved and she could feed from one side (she never developed the ability to feed on the left Hmm)

She used to smile throughout the session which was the only time she really relaxed until she was 'mended'

I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Thanks everyone!

I think I'll book a session with a local cranial osteopath then. I think it's worth going just for the assessment anyways.
