Nipple biting

My 7.5mo old DS has 2 teeth now, bottom-front.

He was EBF till 6mo, when I introduced bottle (formula) gradually during the day, but continued to BF at night and first thing in the morning.
However, he is now starting to bite, and it HURTS.

I love BFing and I would love to continue but I can't deal jwith the biting. I know I will need to stop sometime, but does anyone have any tips so I can keep going for a while longer?

Dd got me with those but we are still feeding at 15mo. It was a phase of about a week until she adjusted her latch and was worse on one side than the other. I kinda rotated her around the nipple a bit so she wasn't always latching in the same place, which had a cut on it. I also bought some teething gel to put on my nipple at the start of the feeds but never used it before it got better. Sometimes I got dh's hand to squeeze.

It was horrid and loads of people told me it was time to give up, but it just suddenly got better and I'm glad I hung in there.

The 'official' advice for biting is to either do a loud OW.. take them off and put them down 'or' push them into the breast so they couldn't breathe so they would break the latch themselves.

I personally used to just poke a finger firmly (not so it hurt) into a cheek and hold it there when they used to bite... I then recognised the cold hard stare, the stop sucking before they used to bite and do a 'you dare' warning.

They do learn not to bite.. although you can understand the 'need' to do it when they have teeth coming through.

You could put teething gel on his gums before you nurse him if you don't want to do anything else. That may help a bit.

We had a phase of this when DD got her top and bottom middle teeth. It did pass but I would second the loud "Ow" and removal. I'm not sure DD really got the message but she doesn't do it now.

Cheers all, I'm going to try and stick it out a bit longer.
