Weaning 7mo refusing bottle

Hi there
Our dd is 7 months 14 days & we started weaning at 6 months.

Recently she has been refusing her food, especially at bed time , refusing the bottle and then waking up very early. She eats well during the day & her routine is as follows:

Wakes 6am- 6oz bottle
8am- porridge ( about 10 little spoonfuls)
9am- offered 6oz bottle
12- 10 spoons (roughly) savoury purée, yoghurt (sometimes)
Offered 6oz bottle
3- puréed fruit or fruit
6- bathed and offered 8oz bottle

She refuses a lot of the bottles I offer, and will not drink water, despite trying everything. I've brought many different cups & tried it from her bottle, but she just spits it out and cries. Shouldn't she be using a cup by now, with a spout? I'm worried- obviously every mum wants their baby to be using a cup recommended for her age.

She is ff and on tommee tippee bottles with fast flow teats. She will go roughly through to between 4-5am in the morning from 6pm.

Is this normal for a baby of her age. It's hard to know if she's full, but I give her as much as she will take of her food before she pushes it away, and same with bottle too.
I spend my life tipping formula feeds down the sink. What can I do, or is this normal? Some days she's mega hungry & we have no problems & a 6-6 sleep, but I feel like we got into a great routine that worked & feel we are regressing.

She has 2 teeth which never bothered her before coming through.
I wondered if there was a bed time milk I could give her, like our equivalent of a horlicks, but formula- is there such a thing?

Any answers would be much appreciated! Thanks

hi there. my daughter began weaning at 6 months, by 8 months she refused every bottle i offered. i was obviously going mad with worry and rang the health visitor. she said you cant force milk down so change her diet to substitute. so, she would have the following:

7am baby cereal with whole milk
10am bowl of yoghurt
12pm mashed veg and whole milk custard
3pm bowl of yoghurt
5.30pm rice pudding

as you can see lots of milky/dairy

this carried on til she was 10 months and i began to introduce puree chicken and beef with the veg.

she is now 13 months, a picture of health, great weight, can walk, chats away, is very bright and eats like a trooper on her own.

dont worry about the formula too much, if she wont have it try substituting, it worked out great for us xx

sorry forgot to add, she also hated water and would look at me as much to say 'what the hell is this stuff?' and then spit it out so i would add a very small amount of sugarfree squash, barely enough just to flavour it and she would have a good beaker a day. good luck

Hello. I have a 6 month 3 week old (dd2) and have been having similar issues with water. Don't worry about the cups, no need to rush them as they have plenty of time to learn how to use one (dd1 took a year or so). You can get Hipp bedtime milk which is creamy and supposed to help a good night time feed.

Our routine is quite similar to yours, will share anyway -

6-7am - 8oz bottle (mostly has 6oz)
8.30am - bowl of creamy porridge (hipp) or mango cereal)
Sleep
10.30-11am - 8oz bottle
12.30 - sweet potato purée or parsnip, around 10 spoons
1.30 - 2pm - 8oz bottle
Sleep
5.30 - cereal or porridge
Bath
6.30 - 8oz bottle then bed

If she seems like she's teething a bit or snacky then I put some apple/avocado/banana/pear in a nuby mesh type thing she can hold and suck the food through.

Aww brilliant- thanks for sharing your routines & experiences- they're very similar!
Sometimes you just need that reassurance before you go stir crazy worrying!! She's just discovered yoghurts & loves them & has whole milk porridge (boots organically range)
It's weird- she won't even eat anything made up with her milk either!!
I feel so much better now after reading your posts- thanks :-)

mummy the minimum she should be having at this age, if you're not bfing obviously, is 20floz of first stage milk a day. Big she's not getting that I'd cut down on her solids for a few days.

Have you seen the Mn weaning forum and the Mn weaning info? Both are very good Smile

Oh and you can make up cereals and food with full fat cows milk from 6 months too.
