My 19month old DD has been so miserable for 7 days now, crying on and off most the day and very unsettled at night waking lots. I took her to the doc & they can't see anything wrong, no ear, throat, urine infection, tummy feels fine, no temp - doc just said it must be teeth. She only has 4 back molars left to come & the dentist who saw her 2 weeks ago said they were very close to the surface but can teething pain really cause her to be this miserable for so long? She's suffered for a couple of days before but not 7 straight.

Has anyone else's little ones had a bout of teething that went on this long or do you think it sounds like there is more up.

I'm at my wits end. Seeing my baby girl so miserable breaks my heart and I'm beyond exhausted from having 7 sleepless nights in a row - it's like having a new born again!!

Oh how awful for you both :(

I found with DS that yes bad teething pains can last for a week or 2. Plenty of pain killers for her under GP guidance of course and lots of cuddles.

Oh dear, you sound exhausted.

The four back molars often cause the most trouble as they are the largest teeth.

I second the advice of corona and keep up with the calpol.

Good luck, it is horrible when they are in pain.

It diffiantely is possible. Dts2 (9mo) went on nursing strike, refused to eat, and rarely settled or stopped crying for 3 days straight, so I wouldn't be surprised if teething lasted a week or longer with an older child. We doped him up on Nurofen and Calpol (mainly before bed so we could sleep!) plus teething gel.

Thanks all - makes me feel so much better to hear its normal. I'm always really wary of giving calpol or ibuprofen for more than a couple of days but GP said keep her dosed up if it helps so I suppose denying her painkiller when she's clearly in pain isn't going to help! She's sleeping soundly right now so fingers crossed for an unbroken night!

I know what you mean, it's not nice medicating your LO but it's not for long in the whole scheme of things. I found calprofen most effective for teething (give it on a full stomach). Good luck for tonight
