Was this a bad thing to do?

My dd is 2 and has always been a great sleeper, until about 3 weeks ago when we put her in a cotbed (big mistake, see earlier thread). She is knackered having not gone to sleep until past 8 last night, was awake at 4 for an hour or so then up at 6. She needs a nap but I knew it would be hard. I tried to settle her in her bed but no joy, so to stop her stripping off nappy I have used masking tape to hold it on, got the travel cot out and left her to it. It's all quiet to I'm assuming she's asleep. Is it mean to effectively gaffer tape her into nappy and is it a backward step getting out the travel cot? What do you think?

Surely the op means that she put gaffer tape over the nappy tabs to stop her dd opening them, NOT that she taped the nappy to the child!

Fwiw i have also done this when the tab has come off/been missing from a perfectly good, unused nappy.

Oh, and i think needs must if a child is insufferable through lack of sleep, she'll get used to the bed, don't worry Smile.

Everyone I know has used sellotape at one time or another!

Let her nap where she wants, she will be to big for the travel cot soon and won't want to go in there.

She will be fine.

But I do think it's worth considering that she isn't ready for the bed transition yet. Ime, if you wait until they're really ready you'll have fewer problems.

We tried dd (now 22 months) with the sides off her cotbed about a month or so ago. It was a nightmare so put them straight back on. It has taken until this week for her to settle herself to sleep again. I will not be trying it again for ages Grin

Ocean seas, I didn't actually gaffer tape the nappy to her, like janek says, just over the tabs! I'm mean but not that mean Wink.
Thanks for your advice, she had a lovely nap and is much lovelier as a result. Think I'm going to talk to DH tonight about putting her back into cot, it may be a backward step but we all need our sleep back!

I wouldn't put her back in the cot at 2, it's not safe once they are that big and can escape. I would just let her nap in the travel cot of she still wants to but property bed at night time.

If not of-silly phoneGrin

valiumredhead · 14/06/2013 19:52

Just to add, I'm all for everyone getting sleep and picking your battles, but the minute a child can get their leg up over the cot side they need to go into a bed. I've seen a child fall and it was awful.

EST0106 · 14/06/2013 22:22

Thanks everyone for your help. She wasn't actually climbing out of the cot and pretty confident that she won't be able to for quite a while yet. Not sure why I thought it was a good idea to make the transfer at this age. She's currently asleep in travel cot for the night and think that we will get the cot out of the loft tomorrow.
