hi all

thanks for all your great helpful comments on my other post about toilet training. DS has been in pants now for 6 days and pretty much all of his wees and poos on the toilet (1 accident today but none at all yesterday).

However, I think that it's actaully me who is trained rather than DS! He hasn't yet asked me or told me that he needs to wee or poo, it's just me asking him or even just taking him to the toilet. Just once, yesterday i think, he asked me to take his trousers off and I interpretted that, correctly as it turned out, for him wanting to do a wee.

Is it my fault in that I'm asking him too frequently and so not giving him the chance to get the ruge and actually need to ask me? Although having said that, this afternoon he just quite calmly sat and did a wee (on my desk chair!) while he was listening to a song on the Cbeebies website. Perhaps he was just to wrapped up in the computer but if that's the case then isn't he just going to be too wrapped up in whatever he's doing?

Sorry, i'm waffling aren't I?
The reason for my posting is I'd be very grateful for any tips or advice as to what to do next. Great that he'll now happily wee and poo on the toilet (and very happy he is about it too, even told me I was a clever girl this morning when I did my wee!) but how do I now go about getting him to tell me when he needs to go?

thanks in advance for any help.

I found that there's a transitional phase shortly after potty training where you (the mum) are the one who is ALWAYS asking/reminding. Eventuallybut this takes timethey start to want to go themselves. The first request to use the toilet will probably come unexpectedly--sometime when you've forgotten to remind ds yourself, for example. And there will be continued accidents, sometimes a lot all at once, and then none for several days.

thanks expatket. I'll just keep on as I'm doing now then huh? Just as I thought my bag would get lighter (no nappies) it's actually got heavier (spare pants and trousers)!
