How does your baby fall in sleep?

Hi All,

I really want to know how other baby falls in sleep day or night, as my Ava, 7 months old, normally very struggle to sleep, cries badly for a long time before falling in sleep every time we put her in bed, even though she's already very tired.

We couldn't pad her, because she will cry even harder if she sees anyone nearby.

It's painful to go through this everyday every time putting her in bed, please help.

Many thanks.
Leo

Could you try putting her down a little earlier? So she's not as tired? Sometimes being over tired makes it harder for them.

Good point, McChubster, I will try at night. But what about during the day, she cries my heart out even by sending her for a nap.

We have periods like that. I find routine helps, knowing roughly what time she naps and sticking to it as much as possible. All sleep in the cot (day and night) dark, quiet etc.
Sometimes if she's losing the plot I just bring her down and try again later. I do rock to sleep though. On occasion have found I need to hold onto her quite tightly to stop any flailing and that seems to help calm her down.

Have you tried cuddling her to sleep? She won't need cuddling forever.

Yes I have found a lullaby toy worked wonders too - my dd2 has the Fisher Price lullaby seahorse which I cannot recommend enough. It plays 5 minutes of soothing music which gets slower to help them doze off and fades out so it doesn't then wake them up when it stops. Its tummy also glows while it is playing. Dd2 is 7.5mo and I bought it for her at 6mo. She often sleeps clutching it or curled around it and absolutely adores it. I put her down and pop seahorsey on, and she seems quite happy that it is now time to go to sleep.
