My nephew (5) wets the bed every night, which is normal, but he soaks through a pullup, his pjs AND the sheets, sometimes twice.

?

SIL was saying this yesterday, with regards to not being able to go on holiday with us.

She has said it before as well. Now, my DD wet the bed until she was eight and was sorted out with a course of medication in the end, I've been on the receiving end of 'helpful' comments from family about cutting down drinks and nighttime lifting and blah blah blah (none of which worked for us), but she never soaked through a nappy, let alone pjs and the sheet.

I'd like to suggest she take him to the gp but I wanted to canvas for opinions here first, in case it is totally within the realms of normal. I don't want to offend her or poke my oar in.

He drinks plenty and and uses the toilet during the day with no problems.

He did have some bowel issues as a toddler, horribly constipated/constant leakage but that is all fine now, I don't know enough to know whether this is connected.

Any advice?

Ds1 was referred to enuresis clinic at 7.2. He was still wet most nights and would flood through pull ups, pj's and onto his sheets. Our GP checked him for UTI and diabetes before referring him.

The advice that Mikkii has posted is exactly what we were told. Ds has been drinking loads more during the day (school have been very supportive) and he decided that he wanted to stop wearing pull ups. From having 90% wet nights, he's now dry 80% of the time. I double layer mattress protectors and sheets so that it's quicker to deal with a wet bed in the night. I take a mattress protector and extra sheet with us when we go away.

Ds is quite embarrassed by it all and wasn't keen for me to speak to his teacher, the Dr advised that we just told school that he was being investigated for kidney problems as they have found that this wasn't questioned!

The post from Mikki is pretty much identical to what our school nurse said to me yesterday. I spoke to his teacher last night and asked her if she could encourage him to finish off his water bottle before leaving school.

He was dry last night but for the first time in 1.5 years he wet himself whilst awake / at school today as he said he didn't get to the toilet in time (he was outside). I have reminded him that he must go to the toilet on his way out to the playground.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to protect a duvet? We have very good mattress protectors but we can't keep going to a launderette daily to get it washed.

No, the only mattress protectors we've had have been sweaty and noisy.

Our ds's duvets are machine washable so we just do that (singles so they for ok).
