Dd and I both had a cough/cold/virus when I went into labour.
Newborn Ds now has a snotty nose sticky eyes and the start of a cough. He's only 4 days old.
He has no temp as of yet and is still feeding & having lots of dirty and wet nappies.
Is there anything I should be doing?

Just monitor temperature especially hands and feet, make sure drinking and nappies wet. Phone the doc if you're worried, poor ds not an easy start!

Oh dear,
Im not sure, but I would keep taking temp, I wouldn't have the room overly warm, keep phone numbers at hand for out of hours advice,
Just keep monitoring xx

Been checking his temp all night and he's had no fever.
He's coughing and bringing up abit of flem though.
I was thinking of making an app with gp in the morning

I would go to the GP, don't take any risks. Poor wee thing!

My DC1 had a cold at about 3wo and I remember some sleepless nights and consulting the Internet and NHS Direct repeatedly.

Congratulations on your baby and I'm sure it will be fine.

You might want to get a nasal aspirator or saline drops (think these are ok for such a little one) if their nose gets really clogged up.

We used the drops on DD but the aspiration is still in its box.

I would go to the GP just to check everything. Thing is, when babies are so small their airways are tiny tiny and can get blocked much more easily then in older babies and children which may (but not necessarily) result in bronchiolitis. DD2 was 7 weeks old when she caught a cold which progressed into bronchiolitis. It is nothing to worry about, I don't mean to scare you, but it is something to keep your eye on. Before I took her to the GP there was no sign that something that looked like a common cold actually progressed into bonchiolitis. And yes, nasal aspirator and saline drops are really helpful.
