DS is 2.3 years old and has endless energy and with all this rain he has been driving me up the walls with whinning and tantrums. I try to get him involved in my chores things like loading and unloading dishwasher, washing machine, etc but he soon losses interest and we land up with a tantrum. Also, have a 6mnth old dd which takes up my time too.

Unfortunately, we don't have any indoor play centres near us.

Can anyone suggest some active activities that he can do indoors to burn off some of his energy? Are there any toddler exercise/dance DVDs that might help?

Sorry, do not have a good imagination so any tips with help.

ANother vote for getting all of the sofa cushions on the floor and building Fire engine/train/helicopter (yep - bit of a challenge that last one) then letting him bounce like mad on the springy sofa base.

DO you have a local franchise for Tumble Tots near you? DS1 went from 1yr-3yrs and loved it - got a bit bored towards the 3yr mark and has just stopped at Easter but I plan to take ds2 in Sept (18mo). Lots of climbing, balancing, running around, singing dancing etc. Plus, when you join you get some freebie CDs/DVDs that you can put on at home.

I've realised with ds1 that even if its just for 10 minutes in the pouring rain, he NEEDS to get out of the house. He (and I) get cabin fever if we're stuck in all day, so I would say just make sure you've got wellies and raincoats and head off out whatever the weather. THe'll love to splash around anyway, dd can be snug as a bug under the raincover. We got a lovely raincoat from letterbox as a present (Fireman) - makes it even more fun to go out in the rain. THink they're a bit pricey but you might get one on ebay.

I grew up in South Africa, so just can't grasp the playing outside on a cold, wet day. (Note to self: GET OVER IT)
