Is this normal? 1yo not playing with any toys

Just turned 1 DS doesn't really 'play' with any toys at home (play in the proper sense - he holds them & tries to eat them though Confused ).

At the childminder's today settling in, he played with her toys, copied what his big sister did etc. Why does he not really do this at home?! He just potters around at home, not doing much, despite all my encouragements. He loves climbing though. Maybe I should just buy him a climbing frame Grin

Maybe he's bored of them? What about other household stuff - does he like that? My dd (and ds) were never that phased by toys until a bit older. Dd who's nearly 18 months likes some toys but does get bored of them so I have to rotate them. But it's only recently where's she's "played" eg she has a tea set which she uses, a push chair and trolley which she pushes around and other random bits. But things like flashing noisy rattle toys which bear no resemblance to anything real - only hold her attention for a few minutes.

I think they're all like this aren't they? DS2 is 17 months and pretty much just bumbles around the house fiddling with things, dragging his books off the shelf, banging things together, he has LOADS of toys which only hold his attention for a few minutes. Recently he has started quite liking his big brother's toy cars and will brum them about on the floor making 'vroom' noises but this is quite a recent development. DS1 was pretty much the same at this age.

As long as he is happy, you are interacting with him frequently, he's safe pottering about then it's not a problem. They are learining all the time just by moving about and working things out.
