does anyone else know if this is normal. he grumbles all the time. its like a frustrated grrr and then a urghhh usually followed by a raspberry it doesnt always turn in to a cry either. this maybe normal but is it just that u have a particually grumpy fella? Shock

Could be lots of things, unfortunately.

DD1 was very grouchy when she was about 2 months old. It turned out she was teething.

But, if by raspberry, you mean wind, but no poo, it could be a food intollerance, either to cows milk, if you are FF, or anything, really, if you are BF. The main things are milk, eggs, wheat and orange juice, apparently. It doesn't take long for these to work their way into your milk, so try cutting them out one by one, and see if there's an improvement.

My 4.5 month does this too, usually when she's building up to a moan! I presume by the raspberries you mean blowing raspberries? This is a developmental thing, good for speech. It's a real sensory thing too and they enjoy it. Maybe all that grr-ing and and urrghh-ing could be trying to get the raspberry thing going! Smile

Sounds like normal vocalising to me ...

SwishSwoshSwoosh · 30/05/2013 20:46

Blowing raspberries very common, various noises very common, don't attribute grumpiness, they are probably just playing with sounds.

If a child is genuinely grumpy, could be so many things, but Teething normally number one. However I think crying is the usual expression of genuine grumpiness at 4 months so any other noises are fairly positive I would say!

Mine's 17 weeks and proper Jekyll and Hyde! Glad I'm not the only one! From cooing and chuckling to grumbles. Often with incongruent facial expressions, seems to be experimenting with his voice I think. I now try and leave him for a few moments if he starts to grumble as he often changes his mind/mood quickly! There is something in Wonder weeks about this being a developmental phase for this too!
