Can 2 year olds ride a scooter?

My DS is currently 19 months and I want to know what everyones DC could do at 2 in terms of riding a scooter or a tricycle or one of those trikes with a handle for parents.

In September when my DS will be 2 he will be changing to a new nursery. I'm currently choosing between a few nurseries but we will be using buses to get there so our commute is part of my decision. I can't decide if it would be better to take a longer bus ride with less walking (possibly more boring for him) or a longer walk and short bus ride. The walk is up/down a hill so I'm not sure how much I would trust him on a scooter even if he was capable. He would be too slow walking and while a pram is a possibility it's not my preferred option.

6 months seems an eternity when trying to guess what a toddler will be like/capable of!

DS got a mini micro for his 2nd birthday. Wouldn't go more than 3 feet on it for over a year. Finally got into the swing of it when about 3.4 and then started using it every day for nursery commutes etc. There's no way we could have done it earlier (he walked the commute from being just over 2.5 - about half a mile). DD on other hand could scoot a short distance at 18 months and I'm sure by 2 will be going back and forward from nursery.

DD has used a Mini Micro Scooter since 18mo. She's now 2 and pretty good on it.

sorry for thread hijack
If your child was coming up 3 would you buy a mini micro or something with only 2 wheels and a handle with adjustable height? DD can scooter reasonably well but is slow. Don't want to buy something she'll outgrow in a few months.
FWIW we have two kids and this buggy-scooter from Phil&Teds has been really useful for getting from A to B. Scooter itself isn't as good as a mini micro but having it attached to the buggy is a godsend. Freerider Stroller Board

My DS loved his mini micro (only just growing out of it now at nearly 5) and could scoot pretty adeptly as soon as he got it for his second birthday. It absolutely revolutionised my life as I could pretty much do away with the buggy and it is so light and easy to transport around.

Ozbozz Trail Twist (? maybe Twist Trail) is £15 vs £50+ for a minimicro. They are basically identical. Slight difference in the type of plastic, which prob means mini micro is more robust in the longer term and slightly 'smoother ride' on bumpy ground. We have a MM for DC1, but for our second child we bought the Ozbozz (poor neglected second child syndrome) - I would highly recommend the cheaper option.

I second a balance bike. Ds3 started to ride his Puky LRM when he was 19 months - and he is not very tall.

By the time he was 2 he was whizzing around on it and able to ride a bike with no stabilisers!

I would suggest reins/littlelife backpack for control. Also you will sometimes end up carrying child and bike, but luckily the Puky is very light.

I would plan on using a buggy for a while yet. It will be faster and there will be lots of times when your DC is tired and doesn't want to scoot.

I wouldn't trust a 2 year old on a scooter near a road- they can lose control easily

I think balance bikes are great - DS had a Puky as well as his scooter - but I don't see them as a scooter alternative, they need both IMO. I would much rather carry the scooter if he gets bored than the bike - and his control was much better on the scooter initially meaning it was safer by the road (but I would agree with the poster who says to exercise caution near roads).
