Hi there
My LO who is now ninteen months old keeps exploring his nappy and wiping the contents over his face. Is this normal? He has now got an eye infection because of this and is on antibiotics. Has anyone else experieinced this? if so, how long does it last and is there anything you did to try and discourage them from doing it?

I cant help but smile at this thread (dont hit me) as my daughter started doing this at about 10 months old and continued for AGES!!! brings back nightmare images of me walking into the nursery, smelling poo, then seeing it all up the sides of the cot, on the bedding, and as you say, all over her face and in her hair!!! She used to eat it too if i didnt get there in time. She was so disgusting!
She's just turned 3 and even now she still puts her hand down there to see what's going on. Totally gross.
Sorry, can offer no words of advice, just to say I feel your pain. I found it was worse through the summer when she was just in a nappy and I changed her back into gros rather than nighties and leggins rather than trousers so the nappy wasnt so easy to get to. Good luck!

Try to change him as soon as he's pood. I know it sounds obvious but even in the mornings I'd get to him as soon as he wakes to try and prevent him from doing it until he's grown out of it. It's not hygenic and it has already caused an infection. This is one of those gross things that kids do that really needs nipping in the bud for everyone's sake! It's not unusual but it is a nasty habit!

Buy a babygrow all in one, cut the feet out, put it on your son back to front, then they can't get to their nappy. This works well with a fleecy all in one too, especially the kind with a zip. Basically they can't unzip it if the zip is at the back!

Does he not wear a vest? Would a vest help? Sorry bit baffled by how he manages to get to the poo in the first place! One of mine did it once when I put her to bed in just a nappy but never since. Sorry not very helpful!

Thanks for your advice and for sharing the stories. Mumto2crazygals. He does wear a popper vest and sleep suite, tho manages to get past this into the nappy. I will definitly try the suedeEffectPuchette's reverse sleep suite idea , sounds like you could have a new product design here!
