cheesy privates

Not sure if I should post this on the 'health' notice board ...

Well, took my daughter's nappy off for her bath tonight and there was a dire smell of cheese coming from her clitoral area. I've never smelt it before and it was pretty intense. Any idea what itmight be or what I should do? She doesn't look sore but maybe a bit pale and swollen (hard for me to say really as she doesn't often let me linger down there!) and she's been 'fiddling' with herself a bit today.

Sorry, yes, she's 15 months and she does have a nightly bath. I didn't notice it at all during the day, only this evening. A bit of a whiff. But it doesn't look infected.

I know this is probably a silly question but has she eaten anything cheesy today?
The reason I ask is because with DS1(or maybe DS2, can't remember) I used to find all kind of bits of food in there. Cheese being one of them.

I don't know how they managed it and how it didn't get uncomfortable but by the end of the day there would be a virtual picnic in there

emmatmg, know what you mean. But no 'real' cheese in the pants tonight.

sb34, It could be her wee, but the nappy didn't smell. What would thrush look like?

a friends little girl had this.....i thik it is called strep
but not the strep thing that pregnant ladies get
quiet mild i think - goes with antibiotics

popsycal · 25/01/2004 21:28

or was that fishy....
oh god
sorry not much help
hope she is better soon!

Evita · 25/01/2004 21:36

strep? Ok, will try to research thrush and strep. But there's no fishy smell. Or is there ... actually there's been some fishy smelling poo but I thought that was because she'd eaten fish.

A couple of drops of tea tree oil in the bath should help - that will cure either a bacterial infection or a fungal one. That way you're covering off the options! Of course on the other hand if it is nothing tea tree oil will have done no harm!

popsycal · 25/01/2004 21:43

PS - DON'T GET SCARED BY STREP B PREGNANT WOMAN THING WHEN YOU SEARCH...NOT THE SAMe
not even sure it is strep...will search myself too!!
as for words - we now have 'lellow' - yellow (not bad hey)
lilo (milo)
cccccccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrr - yoghurt!

Evita · 25/01/2004 21:50

I think it is pretty normal. My dd often has a cheesy smell in that area. Though ocasionally on closer sniff, I find that it's her belly button. I try not to bathe her too often as it aggravates her excema, so I have to rely on wipes for her smelly bits in between baths. Sometimes I guess I don't do it carefully enough. I've never found more than a little redness to go with the smell and she never seems to have any discomfort. So I don't worry.

Evita · 26/01/2004 21:41

I haven't found any redness either. I find it actually rather hard to really clean around that area without getting continual feet kicking in my face. She hates it! And in the bath I don't think the water circulates that well as everything's so tight and compact in that area.
